Job summary

Carrington West seeks an experienced Quantity Surveyor for a National Grid 400kV substation project in Cowley, Oxford. You will manage NEC4 change, control costs, and support broader commercial activities with the Transmission & Renewables team.

The role requires NEC4 knowledge, strong negotiation and analytical skills, and experience with substation or National Grid projects. Site-based, Monday–Friday, 08:00–16:30, inside IR35.

Responsibilities

• Manage change under NEC4 under guidance of Senior Quantity Surveyor.
• Price compensation events and analyse programmes to quantify change.
• Manage subcontractors and suppliers: quotes, contracts, monthly checks and final accounts.
• Support commercial systems on site and maintain relationships with the project team.
• Monitor risks and keep documentation up to date.
• Produce monthly financial reports and forecasts.
• Identify opportunities to recover costs and improve margins.
• Support wider commercial duties as directed by the Senior Quantity Surveyor.

Are you an experienced Quantity Surveyor with strong NEC4 knowledge, looking for your next contract opportunity within the power sector?
We are looking for a Quantity Surveyor to join a major infrastructure contractor's Transmission & Renewables team on a National Grid 400kV substation project in Cowley, Oxford.
You will report to the Senior Quantity Surveyor and be responsible for managing change under NEC4, helping to control project costs and maximise value. The position will also involve managing subcontractors and supporting wider commercial activities across the project, working closely with the project and site teams.

Job Role

• Managing change under NEC4, working under the Senior Quantity Surveyor
• Pricing compensation events and analysing programmes to quantify change
• Managing subcontractors and suppliers, including quotes, contracts, monthly checks and final accounts
• Supporting commercial systems on site and building strong relationships with the project team
• Monitoring project risks and keeping documentation up to date
• Producing monthly financial reports and forecasts
• Identifying opportunities to recover costs and improve project margins
• Supporting wider commercial duties as directed by the Senior Quantity Surveyor

Requirements

• Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor within power, utilities or energy
• Strong knowledge of NEC4 change management and Defined Cost
• Experience with compensation events, valuations and site records
• Ability to analyse programmes and quantify the impact of change
• Experience managing subcontractors through to final account
• Qualified in Quantity Surveying
• Experience on substation or National Grid projects is desirable
• Strong negotiation, communication and analytical skills
• Full UK Driving Licence

This is an Inside IR35 position offering £450-£500 per day Umbrella, with the initial contract running until 31 May 2027.
