Job summary

Carrington West is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor for a National Grid substation project in Melksham, Wiltshire. The role focuses on NEC4 change management, cost control, and subcontractor coordination on a major infrastructure programme.

You will report to the Senior Quantity Surveyor, manage commercial activities on site, and contribute to final accounts while ensuring project competitiveness and value.

Qualifications

• Qualified in Quantity Surveying.
• Strong NEC4 change management knowledge.
• Experience with compensation events, valuations and site records.
• Experience managing subcontractors through final account.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
• Experience on substation or National Grid projects desirable.

Responsibilities

• Manage change under NEC4, reporting to Senior Quantity Surveyor.
• Price compensation events and analyse programmes to quantify change.
• Manage subcontractors and suppliers, including quotes, contracts, monthly checks and final accounts.
• Support commercial systems on site and build relationships with project team.
• Monitor project risks and keep documentation up to date.
• Produce monthly financial reports and forecasts.
• Identify opportunities to recover costs and improve project margins.

Rate: £450-£500 per day Umbrella (depending on experience)

Working Pattern: Site-based - Monday to Friday, 08:00-16:30
IR35: Inside IR35

Are you an experienced Quantity Surveyor with strong NEC4 knowledge, looking for your next contract opportunity within the power sector?
We are looking for a Quantity Surveyor to join a major infrastructure contractor's Transmission & Renewables team on a National Grid substation project in Melksham, Wiltshire.
You will report to the Senior Quantity Surveyor and be responsible for managing change under NEC4, helping to control project costs and maximise value. The position will involve working closely with the project and site teams and managing subcontractor commercial activities through to final account.

Job Role

• Managing change under NEC4, working under the Senior Quantity Surveyor
• Pricing compensation events and analysing programmes to quantify change
• Managing subcontractors and suppliers, including quotes, contracts, monthly checks and final accounts
• Supporting commercial systems on site and building strong relationships with the project team
• Monitoring project risks and keeping documentation up to date
• Producing monthly financial reports and forecasts
• Identifying opportunities to recover costs and improve project margins
• Supporting health, safety, quality and environmental standards on site

Requirements

• Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor within power, utilities or energy
• Strong knowledge of NEC4 change management and Defined Cost
• Experience with compensation events, valuations and site records
• Ability to analyse programmes and quantify the impact of change
• Experience managing subcontractors through to final account
• Qualified in Quantity Surveying
• Experience on substation or National Grid projects is desirable
• Strong negotiation, communication and analytical skills
• Full UK Driving Licence
