Job description

Join a leading security and access control company that partners with some of the UK's largest utility providers, including National Grid and Scottish Power.

We are hiring a Quantity Surveyor to join our team. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Develop proficiency in quantity surveying skills and practices.
  2. Gain experience in construction methods, processes, and review of commercial and cost implications of technical and design information.
  3. Understand project plans and perform monthly progress valuations.
  4. Submit timely and accurate variations.
  5. Understand contractual responsibilities, obligations, rights, and remedies related to project delivery.
  6. Liaise with the Project Manager on contractual issues affecting profitability.
  7. Adhere to environmental and safety standards.
  8. Compile and manage subcontract orders, ensuring proper preparation and sign-off.
  9. Ensure contractual requirements for bonds, guarantees, and warranties are obtained from subcontractors.
  10. Manage procurement of key subcontracts, focusing on risk transfer.
  11. Monitor material differences in subcontractor applications and payments, providing advice to prevent disputes.
  12. Draft contractual notices and communications with subcontractors and suppliers.
  13. Understand and manage payment processes under main and subcontracts.
  14. Maintain records such as engineers' diaries, programme reports, and as-built records.
  15. Process payments and ensure compliance with the Construction Act.
  16. Monitor and collect contractual documentation from subcontractors.
  17. Attend site visits and client meetings.

Candidate requirements include:

  • Working knowledge of NEC Contracts.
  • Understanding of procurement practices and main/subcontract forms.
  • Knowledge of Cost/Value processes and reporting.
  • HND/HNC/Degree in Quantity Surveying (desirable).
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle different personalities calmly.
  • Hardworking and detail-oriented attitude.
