Job description

Overview of the Role:

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic business experiencing exceptional growth. This role will span across all divisions of the company.

The Quantity Surveyor will work within the Quantity Surveying Team to report on and control the commercial and financial aspects of projects and contracts.

To succeed in this role, you should have contractual knowledge and awareness, particularly of NEC3/NEC4 options A and C, and standard methods of measurement. You will manage the financial aspects of subcontract packages, including steel erection, cladding, and metal decking, as well as oversee cost control, using cost and value reporting and cash flow forecasting.

You should have a minimum of 2-3 years of relevant industry experience, with experience in controlling projects within the construction sector. Detailed knowledge of the technical elements of the structural steel industry is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Engage and manage supply chain
  2. Produce and send enquiries to subcontractors inviting tenders
  3. Receive and analyze quotations, then determine the best options based on financial and non-financial factors
  4. Notify successful and unsuccessful tenderers in writing
  5. Produce and process formal subcontract documents and certify payments
  6. Understand and conform with contractual and technical requirements
  7. Produce Bill of Quantities from drawings, specifications, and contract documents
  8. Create Activity Schedules for payments from contract documents
  9. Review standard construction industry contracts
  10. Have a reasonable understanding of structural and architectural steelwork construction processes
  11. Play a key role in ensuring timely payments
  12. Prepare, submit, and negotiate interim Payment Applications
  13. Gather and present information for invoicing and coordinate with the accounting team
  14. Update cash flow forecasts based on project schedules
  15. Communicate commercial information effectively
  16. Extract and organize data for Monthly Reports
  17. Participate in financial and progress meetings with clients and subcontractors
  18. Assist in organizing and presenting commercial information within the company

Key measures and targets:

  • Meet deadlines aligned with the monthly accounting calendar
  • Maintain accurate and current monthly forecasts
  • Challenge resources and costs effectively

The ideal candidate will likely meet the following criteria:

  • Commercial awareness and understanding of construction, especially steel industry experience
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

  • Negotiation skills for internal and supply chain interactions
  • Desire for personal development and staying updated with industry knowledge

Previous Experience:

  • At least 2 years in steelwork industry or quantity surveying, or 3 years in other construction roles

Location:

Primarily based at our Perivale Headquarters in northwest London, with weekly site visits across London. Typical hours are 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
