Job summary

Randstad CPE seeks a senior quantity surveyor to join an established civil engineering team. You will take commercial responsibility for a portfolio and lead a dedicated commercial team in the Reactive & Small Scheme Framework.

You will manage costs, prepare reports, review contracts, and support tenders, with a focus on client relationships and risk management. Rail experience is desirable.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying is required.
  • Minimum 3 years in a QS role is essential.
  • Strong communication and client-facing abilities.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and lead a team.
  • Rail sector experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Take commercial responsibility for a portfolio of works.
  • Manage and support a Commercial team with regular progress reviews.
  • Provide commercial/contractual advice and draft correspondence.
  • Prepare quarterly Commercial board reports and CVRs.
  • Monitor contract costs, budgets, and financial reporting.
  • Lead client relationships and improve customer satisfaction.
  • Oversee procurement and subcontract/supplier orders.
  • Assist with tender formulation and reviews.

Job description

My high profile tier one civil engineering client is looking for an experienced senior quantity surveyor to join their established team in Sheffield.

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor within the Commercial team, you will be working on the Reactive & Small Scheme Framework.

Candidate Responsibilities
  • Take commercial responsibility for a portfolio of works
  • Manage, train and provide support to a dedicated Commercial team, carrying out regular catch ups on their progress
  • Provide advice to the Commercial team and Project staff, on Commercial and contractual matters, including reviewing and drafting of correspondence
  • Manage and produce formal reports for inclusion in the quarterly Commercial board report
  • Monitor contract compliance against statutory requirements
  • Develop client relationships, achieving a progressive improvement in customer satisfaction
  • Oversee and monitor contract costs against agreed budgets
  • Develop and monitor the use of cost and financial reporting systems
  • Carry out monthly/periodic financial reviews (CVR's) on portfolio/multiple projects and forecast final outturn values for cost, sales and margin
  • Prepare and submit periodic valuations/application for payments ensuring that Client payment and cash collection is achieved in accordance with the contract
  • Identify potential commercial/financial risk and opportunity and evaluate options to mitigate/realise.
  • Oversee the procedures and liaise with the supply chain for the procurement, negotiation and placing of sub contract and supplier orders
  • Assist with tenders, both in terms of formulating and review
Candidate Requirements
  • Have a degree in Quantity Surveying
  • Have 3+ years experience working in a Quantity Surveying role
  • Have good communication and client facing skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative and unsupervised
  • Demonstrate ability to lead a team
  • Rail experience - Desirable
