Job description

Job Title: Quantity Surveyor (Groundworks)

Salary: £55,000 - £60,000

Location: Swindon, Chippenham, Bath and Bristol area

Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent

The Opportunity:

We're looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor with a solid background in groundworks and civil engineering to join our commercial team. You'll play a key role in managing the financial aspects of multiple residential groundwork packages across the South West. This role suits someone hands-on, commercially astute, and comfortable working at pace across several live sites.

Key Responsibilities of the Quantity Surveyor:

  • Oversee the commercial management of multiple groundworks packages for residential developments
  • Prepare and submit payment applications, valuations, variations, and final accounts
  • Monitor project progress and costs, ensuring targets and margins are met
  • Procure and manage sub-contract packages
  • Produce bills of quantities, cost plans, and schedules of work
  • Complete monthly CVRs and financial forecasting
  • Handle change control, risk management, and contractual compliance
  • Work closely with site teams, engineers, clients, and stakeholders
  • Ensure adherence to NEC or JCT contract terms and company procedures

Requirements of the Quantity Surveyor:

  • Strong commercial awareness and solid understanding of groundworks
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office and QS software (e.g., Excel, Causeway or similar)
  • Full UK driving licence (travel to sites and regional offices required)

Desirable:

  • Self-motivated and proactive with a problem-solving mindset
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a wider commercial team
  • Comfortable managing both internal and client-facing responsibilities
  • HNC/HND or degree in Quantity Surveying (preferred, not essential)
