Job Description

Quantity Surveyor – London Gatwick Airport

Salary: Up to £60,000 + Excellent Benefits

Department: Construction

Hours: 40 per week (Flexible – extended hours may occasionally be required)

Shape the Future of Aviation Infrastructure

London Gatwick Airport, the world’s most efficient single-runway airport, is embarking on a period of transformative growth. With ambitious plans to regularly operate our Northern Runway and deliver a £200m+ annual Capital Investment Programme, now is an exciting time to join our high-performing construction team.

As part of the team delivering the infrastructure that will power our strategic growth, you’ll help ensure we remain at the forefront of global aviation innovation—balancing scale, sustainability, and passenger service excellence.

The Role: Quantity Surveyor

We're looking for a skilled Quantity Surveyor to provide full commercial and cost management support for a range of construction projects—ranging from asset replacements to iconic, large-scale passenger experience enhancements.

You’ll be embedded in one of our integrated delivery teams, supporting or leading commercial activity across projects valued up to £10 million—or contributing to larger schemes under the guidance of a Senior QS or Commercial Manager. Your work will be instrumental in ensuring our projects stay on budget, deliver value for money, and maintain contractual integrity throughout the entire project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and present accurate project cost plans and estimates from inception through to completion.
  • Administer construction contracts and manage supplier relationships, including assessing and certifying interim payments and final accounts.
  • Lead or support commercial negotiations, tender evaluations, and contract award processes.
  • Produce regular and accurate cost reports including Anticipated Final Cost, Actual Cost of Work Performed, and Forecast to Completion.
  • Manage contract change processes and commercial risk, and support dispute avoidance and resolution where necessary.
  • Benchmark costs internally and externally to ensure best value and maintain financial control across all activities.
  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure effective project delivery in a live operational environment.

Who You Are

  • Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
  • MRICS or working towards chartership .
  • Proven experience in a construction or infrastructure environment—ideally with exposure to live/complex operational sites.
  • Deep understanding of contract law, standard forms (e.g. NEC3/4), and commercial best practices.
  • Comfortable operating in fast-paced, high-stakes environments with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong communicator and collaborator with excellent analytical and negotiation skills.

What’s in It for You

  • Up to £60,000 base salary, depending on experience.
  • Competitive benefits package including generous pension, holiday, and private medical options.
  • Hybrid working options available for applicable phases of the project lifecycle.
  • A chance to work on high-profile, complex projects at the intersection of public infrastructure, private enterprise, and interest.
  • Exceptional opportunities for career growth and development, with access to VINCI Airports’ global network.
  • A diverse, inclusive culture where innovation, teamwork, and professional excellence are celebrated.

Why Gatwick?

Join a major UK infrastructure hub investing billions in sustainable, future-ready growth.

  • Work in a truly unique construction environment, balancing cutting-edge engineering with the logistical complexity of operating within a live airport serving over 40 million passengers a year.
  • Be part of a world-class team—from engineers to commercial managers, everyone plays a part in shaping the passenger journey of tomorrow.
