Job summary

AM Global in London Gatwick area seeks a Quantity Surveyor to provide a full quantity surveying service across assigned projects. You will develop and maintain cost plans, support Programme/Project Managers from inception to completion, and handle multiple contracts while managing budgets and cost reporting.

The role involves minor projects up to £10m or support on larger schemes, with experience in NEC contracts, SAP or similar tools, and a strong IT/Excel capability.

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent in engineering, construction, or business field.
  • RICS membership is highly desirable.
  • Experience providing full quantity surveying on minor projects.
  • Experience handling projects typically above £10m.
  • Familiarity with NEC contracts and contract administration.
  • Good IT skills and Excel proficiency.
  • Experience with SAP or similar cost/project control software desirable.
  • Awareness of airport environment is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain complete project cost plans and estimates.
  • Manage project budgets and validate costs using benchmarks.
  • Perform monthly cost reporting including FAC and Forecast to Completion.
  • Administer contracts of varying value and complexity under NEC and PO terms.
  • Manage contract communications, minutes, warnings, instructions, and changes.
  • Escalate disputes and negotiate resolutions as needed.
  • Support tendering and evaluation with pre-tender estimates.
  • Maintain risk/opportunity register and cost consequences.
  • Close-out projects including warranties, defects, and financial close-out.

Job description

Reports to - Senior Quantity Surveyor

Department - Construction

Days/Shifts - Days but extended hours may be necessary on occasions

Hours - 40 hours per week - flexibility required due to business requirement

Location - London Gatwick

Role overview

The Quantity Surveyor provides a full quantity surveying service for all assigned projects. The Quantity Surveyor will manage cost plan development and maintenance, and provide full technical cost, contractual and commercial support to the assigned Programme Manager/Project Manager(s) from inception to completion. The Quantity Surveyor will have responsibility for minor projects (typically up to £10m) or will support a Senior Quantity Surveyor/Commercial Manager on larger projects.

Principal accountabilities
  • Develop and maintain complete project cost plans and cost estimates to support the governance and procurement processes, including the Risk Drawdown process.
  • Manage project budget ensuring value for money and validation of costs through the use of appropriate internal and external benchmarks. Assess contractor's payment applications in accordance with the contract.
  • Perform monthly cost reporting, including provision of Anticipated Final Cost, Actual Cost of Work Performed, and Forecast to Completion.
  • Manage the administration of contracts of varying values and complexity, driving compliance and contractual performance including NEC Option A, C and E, Construction Purchase Orders and Design Purchase Orders.
  • Manage all contract communication including creating and distributing action lists, meeting minutes, Early Warnings, Project Managers Instructions and Compensation Events, and accepting/rejecting Contractors Notifications.
  • Manage disputes/potential disputes through negotiation, collaborative working and escalation as required.
  • Support the tendering and evaluation process including selection of appropriate procurement strategy and contract, and production of pre-tender estimates.
  • Support the maintenance of the project risk and opportunity register, including valuing the likely cost consequence of each risk/opportunity.
  • Manage the close-out of all assigned projects, implementing close-out plan(s) to ensure all defects are recorded, warranties received and contracts closed, as well as completion of financial close-out including provision of asset cost data for capitalisation purposes.
Qualifications and experience
  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent in relevant engineering, construction or business related field.
  • Membership of a professionally recognised cost organisation such as RICS highly desirable.
  • Experience (typically associated with three years' experience) providing full quantity surveying service on minor projects highly desirable.
  • Experience (typically associated with five years' experience) providing full quantity surveying service on projects with a value typically in excess of £10m.
  • Experienced using web based contract management tools (eg Cemar) desirable.
  • Good IT skills including good understanding of Microsoft Excel. Experience of SAP or similar cost and project control management software desirable
  • Good understanding of NEC suite of contracts, and associated contract administration and negotiations.
  • Good understanding of mathematical and financial reports.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Awareness of airport environment desirable.
  • Personal resilience and the ability to operate within ambiguity
