A construction firm in the UK seeks a Quantity Surveyor for a 6-month contract in Exmouth. The successful candidate will manage commercial responsibilities for planned and reactive projects, ensuring profitability. Our Exmouth Response Maintenance Business is looking for a Quantity Surveyor to join its small, friendly commercial team on a 6-month Fixed-term contract.
We’d love to hear from you if you are a Quantity Surveyor who is keen to take full commercial accountability for delivering our planned and larger projects, on budget and to the specified margins.
The contract with our social housing client in East Devon is unique; we deliver all our services direct to the client. That’s Response/ Voids, Planned Maintenance and Compliance works, for 4,000 properties in and around Exmouth, with a total contract value worth £13m per year.

The Quantity Surveyor role:
You will actively work as part of the commercial team, supporting the Managing Surveyor with the commercial and technical reporting, to ultimately impact the unit’s overall profitability and commercial success.
Specific tasks will include:
Taking commercial accountability for the delivery of the reactive maintenance works at or above agreed profit performance
Working with SORs, you will analyse and review all payments/costs to source solutions that will enable you to have the most cost-effective contract, whilst maintaining the client relationship and demonstrating value for money.
Preparing valuations and managing work in progress (WIP) to closely monitor contract performance, striving for better solutions and outcomes and really steering the commercial performance
Managing and analysing the financial and technical aspects of the contract including procurement, invoicing, and payments to minimise costs, maximise value and cash flow, and meet profit and debtor day targets.
Developing and maintaining positive and collaborative relationships with your operational colleagues, the customers/clients, subcontractors, and suppliers
What will you bring as a Quantity Surveyor?
A proven ability to minimise cost and maximise value, profit, and cash flow effectively, ideally from within a maintenance contracting environment, working with social housing clients or similar
The ability to process high volumes of data analysis, with the use of IT systems, and Excel- you will describe yourself as thorough, detailed and accurate.
Experience of working with direct labour and subcontract procurement
Experience of working on Schedule of Rates type of contracts is desirable, with the ability to price minor works from first principles.
