Job summary

Ian Williams Ltd is seeking a Quantity Surveyor to support our Capital works division on planned refurbishment contracts in the Cheltenham and South Cotswolds area. The role focuses on tendering, estimating and cost control to maximise value and manage risks across active projects.

You will collaborate with the Contracts Manager to align productivity targets, budgets and milestones, while building strong client and supplier relations and ensuring effective cash flow management using COINS.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in a similar quantity surveying role.
• Experience in measuring and costing for contracts and tenders.
• Ability to identify risks and opportunities for budget planning.

Responsibilities

• Measure and prepare cost estimates for contracts and tenders, highlighting risks and solutions.
• Prepare budget cost value reconciliations and identify commercial risks and opportunities.
• Work with Contracts Manager to ensure productivity targets and milestones.
• Build client and supplier relations to progress variations and contracts.
• Take purchase, credit and debtor responsibility using COINS to manage cash flow.
• Analyse weekly site cost information and generate monthly valuations.

We're looking for a Quantity Surveyor to join us on our Capital (Planned Works/ Refurbishment) contracts including those in Cheltenham and the South Cotswolds.

The Quantity Surveyor role

As a Quantity Surveyor within our Capital works division, you will actively tender, estimate and measure onsite. Specifically, you will:

• Measure and prepare cost estimates for contracts and tenders, highlighting any risks and solutions for mitigating these.
• Prepare budget cost value reconciliations, identifying commercial risks and opportunities to ensure correct contract planning from the beginning.
• Work closely with the Contracts Manager to ensure productivity targets and contract milestones are agreed and issued before contract start, including direct labour incentives.
• Build strong client and supplier relations, to ensure any variations and the progress of contracts are discussed and resolved proactively.
• Take purchase, credit and debtor responsibility using COINS to achieve expected cash flow.
• Complete and analyse weekly reporting from site has adequate cost information (including labour rates and performance exceptional to budget, value, progress, quality, and safety)
• Produce monthly contract valuations.

• You will be inquisitive, organised, and honest as well as being a genuine 'people person' who thrives when collaborating with clients, trade teams and immediate colleagues, fostering a real 'working together' environment.
• Proven experience in a similar quantity surveying. Project surveying role
• Experience of successfully managing a value of works up to £3 million.
• A key eye for identifying areas to save money, reduce costs and maximise value.
