Quantity Surveyor - Fit Out

Salary: £65,000 - £70,000 per annum + Package

The Opportunity

Hill McGlynn are currently working with an established construction and fit out contractor who are looking to appoint an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their team, based from their Canterbury office.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially focused Quantity Surveyor with a strong background in fit out projects to join an established business delivering projects across a varied client portfolio.

You will take responsibility for the commercial management of projects, working closely with Project Managers, site teams, subcontractors and clients to ensure works are delivered within budget while protecting the commercial interests of the business.

Previous Quantity Surveying experience within the fit out sector is required for this position.

The Role

As Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for the commercial and financial management of fit out projects from pre-construction through to completion and final account.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Taking commercial responsibility for fit out projects from pre-construction through to final account.
• Preparing and managing project budgets, cost plans and forecasts.
• Managing subcontractor procurement, including tender enquiries, analysis and appointments.
• Preparing and issuing subcontract documentation.
• Assessing subcontractor applications for payment.
• Managing variations and change control throughout project delivery.
• Preparing and submitting client valuations and applications for payment.
• Producing regular cost reports and commercial forecasts.
• Monitoring project expenditure against agreed budgets.
• Identifying commercial risks and opportunities across projects.
• Working closely with Project Managers and site teams to monitor project performance.
• Attending project, commercial and client meetings as required.
• Managing subcontractor accounts and resolving commercial queries.
• Negotiating and agreeing final accounts.
• Ensuring accurate commercial records and documentation are maintained throughout projects.
• Supporting the management of contractual matters and project correspondence.
• Developing and maintaining strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and other project stakeholders.

About You

We are looking for an experienced and commercially focused Quantity Surveyor who has a strong understanding of fit out project delivery and is confident taking responsibility for projects from a commercial perspective.

You will ideally have:

• Previous Quantity Surveying experience within the fit out sector - essential.
• Strong experience managing the commercial aspects of construction projects.
• Experience with subcontractor procurement and package management.
• Strong knowledge of valuations, variations, change control and final accounts.
• Experience preparing cost reports, forecasts and project budgets.
• Good contractual and commercial awareness.
• The ability to identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities.
• Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent numerical and analytical ability.
• Strong organisation and attention to detail.
• The confidence to communicate effectively with clients, subcontractors and project teams.
• The ability to manage your own workload and commercial responsibilities.
• Strong IT and reporting skills.
• A relevant Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or construction qualification would be advantageous.
