Job Description

Quantity Surveyor – Civil Infrastructure

Location: West Yorkshire (Huddersfield, Dewsbury, Brighouse area)

Salary: £55,000 per annum + car allowance (industry leading)

Working Pattern: Site-based with hybrid working available

Join an award-winning civil engineering contractor with a strong foothold in Yorkshire, delivering major infrastructure schemes through long-term frameworks. We're looking for a Quantity Surveyor ready to take ownership and grow with a thriving commercial team.

Backed by a parent group with a forward order book exceeding £1.5 billion, the business offers excellent long-term stability, progression, and a track record of award-winning project delivery across Yorkshire and the North East.

This role is ideal for a commercially astute Quantity Surveyor looking to take full ownership of NEC-based schemes in a supportive and growing team. You will play a key part in the delivery of projects ranging from £5 million to £15 million+, working across live schemes and pre-construction phases on future pipeline.

Initial responsibilities will focus on a major highways and public realm scheme in the Huddersfield area, with further projects scheduled in Dewsbury, Brighouse and South Yorkshire. These include active travel corridors and sustainable transport improvements, all delivered under NEC contract arrangements.

Project Types Include:

  • Public realm and active travel improvements, including cycleways, footpaths, road realignment and urban landscaping
  • Highway infrastructure upgrades and traffic improvement schemes
  • Station access improvements and pedestrianisation works
  • Design and build contracts under two-stage ECI arrangements
  • Project values typically range from £5 million to £15 million+

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take full commercial responsibility for civil engineering schemes from pre-construction through to final account
  • Manage subcontract procurement, tendering, contract administration and payment processes
  • Prepare and submit applications for payment, valuations and cost forecasts
  • Track compensation events, variations and early warnings under NEC contracts
  • Compile and maintain CVRs, cost reports, and financial submissions to senior management
  • Work closely with a Senior QS and Commercial Manager while contributing to the mentoring of junior surveyors
  • Assist with pricing and commercial input on new tenders and early-stage design development (ECI)

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Quantity Surveying role within civil engineering, highways, or infrastructure (or related sectors utilising NEC contract type)
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts, particularly Options A and C
  • Previous experience managing multiple packages and working independently on site-based schemes
  • Strong interpersonal and organisational skills, with the ability to liaise with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams
  • A full UK driving licence is essential, as is the ability to travel to site three days per week
  • Degree-qualified or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying or similar construction-related discipline

What the Company Offers:

  • A secured pipeline in regional projects across West and South Yorkshire
  • Long-term visibility through local authority frameworks running to 2028 and beyond
  • Opportunity to work across the full project lifecycle with meaningful responsibility from day one
  • Supportive senior leadership and structured progression pathway toward Senior QS
  • Hybrid working (2 days remote per week) available following a 3-month probation period
  • Competitive salary, car allowance, annual bonus, and contributory pension scheme
  • Part of a contractor with a £1.5 billion order book and multiple industry awards for project delivery and social value in Yorkshire and the North East
