Job summary

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Quantity Surveyor in Belfast to join the ENW Portfolio within its Advisory and Programme Delivery unit. You will report to the Senior Quantity Surveyor and help manage the commercial delivery of clean, wastewater and environmental projects across the built environment.

You will monitor project risks, manage stakeholders, and contribute to governance while working collaboratively with client teams to deliver time, cost and quality with safety at the forefront.

Qualifications

  • Excellent IT skills including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; able to present clearly.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with clients and stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel to client sites and MM offices as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Commercial management of one or more projects.
  • Budget management including month end reporting (actuals, variances, accruals).
  • Risk management and reporting; dispute resolution/avoidance.
  • Offer commercial strategy advice and review of subcontractor acceptance.
  • Assess compensation events and monthly payment applications.
  • Carry out commercial audits and mentor junior team members.

Overview of the role

As Quantity Surveyor you will report to the Senior Quantity Surveyor and will assist on the commercial management of various interesting clean, wastewater and environmental projects. As part of a Core Team within the ENW Portfolio, you will work closely with the wider Advisory Project and Programme management teams to manage the project deliverables to the Client expectations. You will demonstrate a passion to work collaboratively with our client teams to deliver their complex projects to time, cost and quality with a commitment to safety. You will drive innovation of our service delivery and provide advice to the team and an integrated client. You will take ownership of and responsibility for the successful delivery of your projects, identifying and monitoring project risks and opportunities, managing stakeholders taking account of their levels of influence and particular interests and ensuring good project governance.

Candidate specification
Desirable
  • Ideally Chartered QS MRICS or working towards chartered status (MRICS) and a commitment to CPD (Continuing Professional Development)
  • Cost planning skills and experience of delivering ideally within a cost consultancy / multi‑disciplinary environment
  • Previous experience of contract administration, cost estimates and NEC contracts
  • Relevant experience working in water, environment and regulated industries

  • Ideally degree qualified
  • Ability to operate both autonomously and as a part of a larger team
