Role Overview

The Cardo Group are currently recruiting for a Quantity Surveying Apprentice to join our team based in the Plymouth area.

The Quantity Surveying Apprentice is an entry-level professional working within the construction industry to support the financial and contractual management of building projects.

This role will be assisting in the management of the costs and contracts of construction projects, ensuring they stay within budget. This involves supporting senior managers with tasks like cost estimation, contract administration, and financial reporting, while also learning about construction practices and building relationships with clients.

This opportunity combines on-the-job learning with formal education, through an apprenticeship, enabling individuals to gain both academic qualifications and industry experience simultaneously

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting with budgeting, cost control, and financial reporting for construction projects.
  • Supporting the management of contracts, including sub-contractor agreements, variations, and payments.
  • Helping with the measurement and calculation of material quantities for cost estimations.
  • Supporting the preparation of tenders and the procurement of sub-contractors.
  • Interact with clients and other stakeholders to gather information and provide updates on project progress.
  • Participating in site inspections to gather information and assess project status.
  • Maintaining accurate records of project costs, variations, and other relevant information.
  • Gaining knowledge and experience in quantity surveying principles, construction practices, and relevant legislation.
  • Supporting the preparation of weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports.
  • Assisting with the preparation of bills of quantities and material schedules.
  • Reviewing drawings and assisting with issuing them to sub-contractors.
  • Participating in meetings with clients and other professionals.
  • Contributing to the identification of cost savings and opportunities for improvement.
  • Learning to use relevant software and tools for cost management and reporting

Knowledge And Experience

  • Educational Background: Level 3 BTEC in construction, two A Levels and three GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in using computer-aided design (CAD) software and other relevant tools.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, clients, and other stakeholders.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyse data, identify trends, and solve problems.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Organisation and Time Management: Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise work, and meet deadlines.
  • Commitment to Professional Development: Willingness to complete the apprenticeship coursework and gain the qualification to develop professionally within the construction industry.
