Role Summary:As a Quantitative Developer, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining our scheme forecasting models and analytical tools, as well as publishing supporting technical documentation. You will collaborate closely with analysts and stakeholders to gather requirements and drive projects from inception to deployment. Your expertise in object-oriented software engineering, quantitative modelling, cloud computing, and data analysis will be essential in enhancing the models that underpin our cashflow and pricing engines. You will also conduct ad-hoc analysis and scenario testing to evaluate energy market robustness within our frameworks.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of energy market fundamentals combined with advanced algorithm development and optimisation skills. They should approach complex challenges with urgency and enthusiasm, communicating insights clearly and succinctly. Adaptability, curiosity, and a willingness to learn new technologies and approaches are crucial traits for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and build energy models aligned with best practices in software engineering
- Manage, test, and deploy updates and bug fixes to models, tracking tasks in Jira and GitLab
- Collaborate with analysts to gather requirements, design tests, and scope new projects
- Create and maintain technical documentation
- Explore and clean datasets for modeling, optimizing data pipelines
- Identify and streamline inefficient processes
- Prepare and present visual materials to communicate software design and model logic to non-technical stakeholders
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise
- A degree in a highly numerate subject is essential
- At least 2 years of Python development experience, including scientific computing and data science libraries (NumPy, pandas, SciPy, PySpark)
- Strong understanding of object-oriented design principles for usability and maintainability
- Experience with Git in a version-controlled environment
- Knowledge of parallel computing techniques (Python multiprocessing, Apache Spark) and performance optimization
- Understanding of data structures and algorithms
- Problem-solving mindset with enthusiasm for tackling technical challenges
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively to non-technical audiences
- Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) is desirable
- Experience with Machine Learning libraries (scikit-learn, PyTorch) and statistical techniques is desirable
- Knowledge of the electricity market is desirable
