Job description

What’s The Role

Shell Trading integrates a worldwide trading network with an unsurpassed global portfolio in crude oil, refined products, natural gas, electrical power, and chemicals. It has larger locations in London, Houston, Calgary, Singapore, Dubai, Rotterdam, and Barbados. Shell Trading is one of the world’s largest energy traders and is a key segment of the Royal Dutch/Shell portfolio.

Shell Energy Europe & Africa (SE-EA) sells and actively trades energy related products and services associated with European natural gas, power, and environmental products. SE-EA was created in 2009 through the combination of Shell’s marketing and trading companies in Europe. It is part of Shell Energy, which is the commercial heart of the Integrated Gas Business and aligns all Energy Trading activity worldwide.

SE-EA focuses on European gas and power markets and the global emissions market. The environment is dynamic and challenging, requiring SE-EA to continuously find new value creation propositions (CVPs) for suppliers and customers to grow its portfolio. This role will be part of the European Gas and Power commercial business team based in London.

This position will work closely with the Gas and Power Trading, Structuring, and Business Development teams to handle physical and financial structured products.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Build pricing models and automate execution in the Gas and Power space, covering Trading, Business Development, and Origination, considering the entire deal lifecycle.
  • Provide quant support for trading desks, including analytics, pricing, and tooling, with a focus on BAU activities like UI/dashboards development.
  • Create bespoke quant models and methodologies for trading and build model components.
  • Standardize and document models in the Quant Library for deployment across SE-EA and Ada++ valuation engines.
  • Document mature models for validation processes.
  • Develop tactical and strategic solutions for real-time power and gas position optimization and pricing.
  • Contribute to understanding market opportunities, trends, and value potential.
  • Prioritize opportunities based on the deal funnel and market understanding.
  • Share learnings internally and externally to improve decision-making.
  • Partner with IT and Commercial teams to develop and enhance IT solutions, aiming for automation and new value propositions.
  • Ensure governance and rigor in delivery processes, pushing towards full automation.

This role, reporting to the Trading Quant Lead, will focus on enhancing analytics and modeling to support commercial activities in the Gas and Power trading portfolio, aiming to grow the business and contribute significantly to SE-EA’s P&L.

The incumbent will understand the trade lifecycle, market dynamics, and be a key interface between trading, business development, and structuring teams, supporting structured, retail, and imbalance products.

What You Bring

  • Extensive experience in quantitative or commercial roles within the Gas and Power markets.
  • Experience managing diverse Gas and Power asset portfolios, including optimization and trading across European markets.
  • Certificate in Quantitative Finance (CQF) is desirable.
  • Market expertise and the ability to identify commercial opportunities and their drivers.
  • Broad, agile, and precise thinking with credibility and trustworthiness.
  • Ability to quickly understand and act on commercial opportunities under time pressure.
  • Proactive mindset for proposing improvements and driving change.
  • Understanding of credit, market, and financial risk, and deal lifecycle.
  • Experience in collaboration and stakeholder management, engaging with traders, origination, structuring, and other teams.
  • Language skills in Spanish, German, Dutch, or Italian are advantageous.

What We Offer

  • Opportunities to develop skills in a growing energy transition environment.
  • Work with cutting-edge technology and trends.
  • Collaborate with experienced professionals.
  • Values-driven culture emphasizing honesty, integrity, and respect.
  • Flexible working hours and remote work options.
  • Competitive salary and performance-based increases.
  • Paid parental leave for all parents.
  • Diversity and inclusion initiatives, welcoming applicants of all backgrounds.
  • Diverse career progression opportunities globally.
  • Access to extensive training and development programs.

We encourage a broad and diverse candidate pool. Even if this role isn’t a perfect fit now, consider joining our Talent Community for future opportunities.
