Job Title: Quality Technician (Welder) - Days
Salary: £27,855 rising to £29,279 when role objectives are reached
Contract: Full time & permanent
Hours: Monday to Thursday: 6:00 AM – 3:00 PM & Friday: 6:00 AM – 9:30 AM - we support coverage across the full factory roster, so flexibility is key!
Location: Desford, Leicestershire

The Opportunity:
As a Quality Technician (Welder) at our Desford facility, you’ll support the inspection and rework of machines to ensure they meet engineering and quality standards. While welding is part of the role, much of the work involves drilling, cutting, fettling, tapping, and other hands-on repair tasks. You’ll work closely with Product Quality Controllers (PQCs) to ensure all work aligns with technical drawings and specifications. Our team supports the entire factory roster, so flexibility is essential. We adapt to production needs and step in across shifts to keep quality and operations running smoothly.

What you will do:
As a Quality Technician (Welder), you are accountable for, but not limited to:
- Perform rework on parts and machines (e.g. tapping, drilling, grinding, welding, cutting, fettling)
- Use techniques such as MIG/MAG weld, stud weld, thread tapping, and bolt/stud extraction
- Record defects and inspection results accurately
- Investigate non-conformities and support root cause analysis
- Read and interpret engineering drawings to guide rework and inspection

What You Can Demonstrate:
- Repair Processes: MIG and MAG Welding Certification and weld finish experience. Perform the following job-specific tasks: Tapping, drilling, grinding, welding, cutting, fettling metal and/or plastics.
- Quality Operations: Communicates across departments and teams, to ensure a smooth workflow. Proactively reviews reject areas to ensure targets are achieved.
- Quality Knowledge: Read and interpret engineering drawings and quality standards. Able to inspect parts or machine to determine conformity.
- Safety: Proactive in managing safety standards and ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations. Foster psychological safety and team engagement, ensuring open communication and collaboration across diverse groups.
- Process Improvement: Evaluates production methods and maintains focus, with team input, on promoting the continuous improvement of processes and products utilising lean, Six Sigma and drive innovation.
- Prioritisation: Self-motivated and able to proactively manage multiple priorities.

What You May Have:
- Assembly and rework experience of Caterpillar machines.
