Job summary

Bechtel is seeking a Quality Specialist for a multi-year UK nuclear infrastructure programme. The role supports the Project Quality Manager across engineering, procurement, supplier, and delivery processes, ensuring quality requirements are defined, communicated, and verified.

The position is primarily Aldermaston with potential travel to London, offering a hybrid pattern (three days on site, two days home/office) and UK national considerations. UK nationals only; interview and terms apply.

Project Overview

For more than 75 years, Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) has supported the UK Government's nuclear defence strategy and the Continuous at Sea Deterrent. They use nuclear know-how and technical expertise to provide innovative solutions that support the UK’s counterterrorism and nuclear threat reduction activities. Like Bechtel, they create and maintain a safe operating culture where safety is front and centre of everything they do. From building state-of-the-art facilities, to supporting Production, Science, Engineering and Technology programmes, the management of Environment, Safety, Health and Wellbeing underpins all activities at AWE.

Bechtel is collaborating with AWE as an integrated team to deliver the preliminary design for the facilities within the Future Materials Campus. Since 2023, Bechtel has provided delivery and technical support, ensuring the project is completed on schedule and within budget.

Job Summary

This position is for a Quality Specialist who will work a multi-year contract on a United Kingdom (UK) nuclear infrastructure programme for which Bechtel are providing the Project Management and Engineering services. This project is at the conceptual design phases driving a programme involving a multi-billion-pound investment in nuclear and non-nuclear facilities.

The Quality Specialist is a proactive and driven professional who supports the Project Quality Manager (or delegate) as a quality representative for project activities. The role helps ensure that quality requirements are appropriately defined, communicated, implemented, and verified across engineering, procurement, supplier, and project delivery processes.

Responsibilities include supporting and participating in quality audits and assessments; reviewing selected project documents to confirm inclusion of applicable quality requirements; tracking nonconformances and corrective actions; supporting quality metrics and trending; providing support to establish, maintain, and improve quality management systems and project-specific processes; providing technical specialist support for SharePoint-enabled quality processes and data reporting; and promoting continuous improvement through People Based Quality (PBQ), Lessons Learned, and corrective action processes.

The Quality Specialist works with minimal supervision and uses sound judgment to identify quality risks, evaluate conformance to established requirements, and recommend effective actions. The role supports teams in resolving quality issues by facilitating timely corrective actions, verifying closeout effectiveness, and providing guidance on quality processes and documentation expectations. Work is performed in accordance with company and client quality program/plan requirements, applicable regulations, and relevant codes and standards.

The role will be based primarily at Aldermaston UK, however travel to Bechtel’s London office (near Covent Garden) may also be required. Flexibility in work locations includes three days per week working at the project site and two days working from home or the Bechtel office. This arrangement will change as project needs adjust.

The position is open to United Kingdom (UK) Nationals only.

Major Responsibilities

• Participates in the preparation, improvement, and implementation of quality procedures and plans, including standardized metrics, trend analysis, lessons learned, and best practices.
• Participates in and supports quality audits and assessments covered by the corporate/project quality program/plan (including preparing and completing audit checklists and documenting results).
• Provides specialist data analysis and reporting support for project quality and information management.
• Provides technical specialist support for SharePoint, information management workflows, dashboards, and data reporting to enable accurate quality performance monitoring and evidence-based decision-making.
• Reviews selected engineering, procurement, construction, and supplier documents to verify that applicable quality requirements are included and correctly flowed down.
• Reviews documentation and reports on the quality of records, or deliverables for conformance to specified quality requirements.
• Supports the establishment, maintenance, and improvement of quality management systems and project-specific processes, including process documentation, implementation support, and integration with project ways of working.
• Participates and/or leads in the review of relevant functional and supplier procedures/manuals to confirm conformance to corporate/project quality program/plan requirements.
• Reviews and comments on the sufficiency of selected quality control/inspection plans and quality records, as applicable to the project phase.
• Follows up on actions taken in response to audit findings and nonconforming conditions to confirm adequacy and effectiveness of completed corrective actions.
• Participates in monitoring implementation of the project quality program/plan, including People Based Quality (PBQ), Lessons Learned, close-loop corrective actions, and continuous improvement activities.
• Supports the collection, analysis, and reporting of quality performance data (metrics and trends) and escalates emerging risks, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
• Interfaces with project stakeholders (engineering, procurement, construction, suppliers, client representatives) to provide guidance on quality requirements and support resolution of quality-related questions.

Education And Experience Requirements

• Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline and/or demonstrable experience in quality assurance/quality control on engineering, procurement, and/or construction projects.
• Knowledge of quality management systems and assurance concepts (e.g., ISO 9001 or equivalent), including document control, compliance verification, and continuous improvement.
• Experience supporting or participating in internal, supplier, or project audits/assessments, including use of audit checklists, recording objective evidence, and tracking actions to closeout.
• Ability to review selected engineering, procurement, and construction documentation to confirm inclusion of quality requirements and to identify gaps and inconsistencies.
• Working knowledge of nonconformance, corrective action, and verification/closeout processes (including basic cause analysis and effectiveness review).
• Strong analytical skills, including the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and support quality metrics reporting.
• Technical capability in SharePoint, data reporting, and dashboard development to support quality processes, information management, metrics, and trend analysis.

• Effective communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and with client/supplier representatives.
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and the ability to challenge constructively.
• Strong organisational skills, including the ability to plan and prioritise multiple activities and maintain accurate records.
• Experience in a regulated or high-hazard environment (e.g., nuclear, defence, oil & gas, pharmaceuticals) is preferred; nuclear quality experience is an advantage.
• Must be able to obtain a SC Clearance for access to the AWE Site
