Job Description:

Our client, a privately owned company located in East Sussex, currently employs just over 60 people. Their core business involves designing and manufacturing specialised imaging detectors and systems for industries ranging from aerospace to biomedical.

Applications include the detection of single photons and ultrafast cameras capable of sub-nanosecond exposure times.

The company is a global leader in highly differentiated technologies used in scientific and medical research, life sciences, agriculture, recycling, aerospace, defence and security, and industrial markets.

Job Summary

A QSE Manager is needed for an immediate start to oversee Quality Assurance and implement Health & Safety and Environmental compliance throughout the company. Responsibilities include maintaining and managing our Quality Management Standards – ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. This key position will help shape our quality culture and ensure continuous improvement across all business areas.

Key areas of responsibility
  1. Quality Assurance
  • Supervise and develop a small QA team
  • Maintain and administer the Quality Management System (QMS), ISO 9001 and ISO 14001
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address quality issues and ensure product and process consistency
  • Monitor and report yield statistics and warranty return numbers within core product lines
  • Coordinate 8D corrective actions with engineering support
  • Oversee quality control processes including incoming inspection, in-process checks, and final product evaluation
  • Manage document control processes
  • Handle internal and external audits, driving corrective and preventative actions
  • Manage change control system (QCBD)
  • Lead internal MRB meetings and follow-up actions
  • Represent the company in quality control matters externally
  • Report and present quality performance to Senior Management and Board
  1. Health & Safety and Environmental
  • Develop and maintain H&S policy in line with legal and best practices
  • Conduct safety inspections, risk assessments, and training
  • Ensure proper induction and training records for staff
  • Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions
  • Manage Environmental Management program per ISO 14001 standards
  • Ensure compliance with waste, emissions legislation, and promote sustainability
Qualifications
  • Professional certifications or extensive experience in QMS (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 14001) – Essential
  • NEBOSH qualification – Desirable
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or related field – Desirable
Experience
  • Proven experience in a similar QSE role within manufacturing, preferably scientific equipment or precision manufacturing – Essential
  • Strong knowledge of ISO standards (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001) and compliance – Essential
  • Experience leading internal and managing external audits – Essential
