Salary:£42,000 - £47,000 per annum (inclusive of London weighting)

Contract: Permanent

Hours: 35 per week (standard Anthony Nolan working hours)

Job SummaryThe Quality Manager will drive the quality agenda within the Anthony Nolan H&I Laboratory. They will work with colleagues within the Quality Team and the Laboratory Team to maintain compliance with the relevant accreditation standards, currently UKAS ISO15189 and the European Federation of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (EFI). This is a unique opportunity to support a diagnostic laboratory, as a member of the quality and regulation team in a dynamic organisation striving to improve the lives of patients every day.

This is a vital role for the organisation and therefore it is key that this individual maintains an up-to-date knowledge of the relevant quality standards (ISO 15189, EFI) and quality management skills. Driving the quality culture, they will refine and review the quality management road map and deliver a comprehensive quality education programme.

This role will sit within the Quality team, reporting to the Head of Quality and working alongside the other Quality Managers. The position supports our H&I Laboratory, which is one of the largest in the UK, with over 50 people. The H&I Laboratory delivers a clinical Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics service along with commercial laboratory services. In the last financial year, we supported 370 adult stem cell transplants and 29 paediatric patient stem cell transplants, in addition to processing over 37,000 donor samples.

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic professional, with experience of working in a highly regulated healthcare laboratory, ideally a diagnostic laboratory or stem cell laboratory. An individual who is excellent at building and maintaining relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders including the external regulatory and accreditation bodies. Due to the collaborative nature of the position, understanding the complexities of working in a busy laboratory environment is crucial.

Essential Attributes

  • BSc in Biological Sciences or an equivalent science.
  • Extensive experience of working in the quality management function within an accredited and/or licensed healthcare establishment for e.g. a diagnostic laboratory, stem cell processing laboratory or a manufacturing laboratory. It would be an advantage to have experience in a clinical H&I laboratory.
  • Strong IT skills with proficiency in preparation and presentation of QMS related data, auditing, and reporting, desirable to have experience of using Ideagen Q-pulse software.
  • Knowledge and experience of validation and qualification processes (IQ, OQ, PQ) for laboratory equipment and processes.
  • Substantial experience as an auditor (completion of a certified training course or a reviewer for an accreditation body) having conducted (prepared checklists, performed audits and prepared and delivered the final audits to teams) and participated in inspection audits.
  • Experience of managing significant change projects (to services, processes, or equipment) within an accredited or licensed laboratory.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, chairing meetings, preparing data and dashboards for discussions of QMS data and issues, being prepared to challenge colleagues when there are issues with compliance.
  • Effective time management skills and the ability to manage large and varied workloads.
  • Good understanding of the relevant UK legislation and quality standards Anthony Nolan seeks compliance in, for example, United Kingdom Accreditation Services (UKAS) ISO 15189, European Federation of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (EFI) to cover the requirements of the H&I Laboratory and FACT JACIE, FACT NetCord, the Human Tissue Act, CQC and GMP to cover the wider Laboratory Services departments.
