Quality Manager

Location: Tewkesbury

Job Type: Full-time, 40 hours per week (Monday-Friday, with out of hours presence in urgent operational needs)

Salary: £36,637.20 per annum

Overview

We are seeking a Quality Manager to lead our laboratory function, ensuring product safety, quality, and compliance with all relevant food safety standards. This role is crucial in managing testing schedules, team development, and maintaining our BRCGS certification and HACCP protocols.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure product safety, quality, and compliance with food safety standards.
  • Coordinate laboratory team to carry out testing and sampling of raw materials, in-process materials, finished products, and shelf life.
  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment according to schedule.
  • Prepare for, participate in, and assist in site accreditation audits.
  • Manage non-conforming product reports and liaise with the Technical Manager and Production Management regarding product failures.
  • Maintain laboratory hygiene, safety, and documentation standards.
  • Drive laboratory accreditation improvements and troubleshoot technical and operational issues.
  • Manage and develop laboratory personnel, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment.
  • Develop laboratory procedures and coordinate KPIs as required.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Confidence, initiative, and a proactive mindset.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and QMS platforms.
  • Background experience in a laboratory function, preferably in Food Science, Microbiology, or Biology.
  • Knowledge of BRCGS Food Safety standards, HACCP principles, and Food Safety Management Systems.
  • Experience in coordinating small teams within a laboratory environment.
  • Knowledge of the Dairy industry and strong attention to detail in report writing.
  • Desirable: Educated to HNC/Degree level in a science-related subject and strong knowledge of Food Microbiology & Food Chemistry.
