Overview

Are you a Quality Manager seeking a new role in the Portsmouth area? CMS2 specialises in the design and manufacture of atmospheric control systems for the defence industry. We are experts in enabling high availability atmosphere management systems to generate breathable air for submariners, allowing boats to remain underwater for long periods of time. CMS2 is part of Science Group, a science & technology business providing consultancy and systems to an international client base.

Responsibilities
  • Site ownership of Quality, providing leadership within Quality to fit the business strategy. Reporting into Managing Director with dotted line engagement with Science Group head of quality; role embedded in the delivery function working closely with associated teams.
  • Manage and develop the quality team covering Quality Inspection, Quality Assurance, Customer Quality and Environmental Management.
  • Provide Quality input, technical understanding and Quality assurance to ensure products are manufactured right first time.
  • Sign-off of deliverable product to clients, supported by the Quality Engineering team that reports into the Quality Manager.
  • Provide technical quality engineering support to programme teams ensuring appropriate control mechanisms are implemented and risk analysis validates effectiveness of controls, using tools such as MITP/Quality Plans, Process Flows and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Responsible for timely response/resolution to external and internal non-conformance, troubleshooting manufacturing and supplier-based issues.
  • Represent CMS2 to customers on Quality matters, supported by the Quality Engineers as appropriate.
  • Own the Quality Management System to ensure it aligns with guidelines and external certifications (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 27001) and/or customer requirements; coordinate internal functions in support of the QMS, communicating, training and implementing quality initiatives.
  • Promote and support maintenance and improvement of all processes; set up the management review system and ensure actions are followed through to completion.
  • Lead, coach and train an internal cross-functional audit team and develop the QMS to remain applicable to the business.
  • Lead root cause analysis, coordinating corrective/preventive actions for customer complaints, internal non-conformances and alerts.
  • Carry out supplier audits when necessary.
  • Define and coordinate the implementation and verification of the effectiveness of corrective and preventative measures.
  • Own Environmental within the CMS2 management team; understand environmental legislation and maintain awareness of legal changes while maintaining ISO14001 accreditation.
  • Report environmental statistics and findings to senior management to enable understanding of environmental responsibilities; formulate and implement an effective waste management policy; develop and maintain ISO14001 compliance.
  • Communicate Quality metrics internally, submitting weekly and monthly reports to support management reporting.
  • Link with Science Group Quality function to share approaches, best practices and lessons learned across divisions.
  • Maintain continuous professional development to ensure knowledge is up to date.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
  • Experience maintaining ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 accreditations with awareness of AS9100.
  • Knowledge and experience within highly regulated environments (Defence, Automotive, Nuclear, Oil and Gas, Aerospace).
  • Knowledge of manufacturing techniques and process application.
  • Experience of managing a small team.
  • Customer management experience with Tier 1 clients.
  • Certified to minimum internal auditor (lead auditor preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years engineering experience within a quality environment.
  • Strong IT skills with good understanding of Microsoft packages and ability to interpret customer data.
  • Ability to engage employees and encourage adoption of new approaches.
  • To apply, you must meet BPSS requirements and undergo a security clearance (SC); an existing right to live and work in the UK is required. SC clearance typically requires at least 5 years’ UK residence.
