Job summary

Peterborough College seeks a Quality Lead Practitioner to drive outstanding apprenticeship teaching, learning and assessment. You will coach colleagues, lead CPD on apprenticeship pedagogy and collaborate with curriculum and leadership teams to raise learner outcomes in apprenticeship programs.

The role includes maintaining a teaching commitment around 10 hours per week and developing staff through mentoring, with a 12-month fixed-term contract based in Peterborough. Closing date 24 August 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Coach, mentor and develop teaching and apprenticeship staff to improve teaching, learning and assessment practice
  • Support colleagues delivering apprenticeship programmes to develop their confidence, skills and understanding of effective apprenticeship pedagogy
  • Lead and deliver CPD programmes that promote innovation and high-quality apprenticeship delivery
  • Work with curriculum and apprenticeship teams to improve learner and apprentice outcomes
  • Support colleagues to develop approaches to teaching, assessment and progress monitoring within apprenticeship programmes
  • Conduct learning walks and reviews to identify improvements
  • Share research and best practices in teaching and apprenticeships
  • Support quality assurance processes and curriculum improvement
  • Collaborate with ILT to promote digital teaching practices
  • Contribute to the apprentice journey from induction to successful completion
  • Maintain a teaching commitment of about 10 hours per week

Are you an experienced Further Education practitioner with a passion for teaching, learning and the development of apprentices?

Peterborough College is seeking a Quality Lead Practitioner to play a pivotal role in driving excellence in teaching, learning and assessment, with a particular focus on apprenticeship delivery and the development of colleagues working with apprentices.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced FE professional who wants to extend their impact beyond the classroom, supporting colleagues to deliver high-quality apprenticeship programmes and helping to ensure that apprentices receive an outstanding learning experience that prepares them for success in the workplace.

Working closely with curriculum teams, apprenticeship colleagues, Heads of Faculty and senior leaders, you will champion effective teaching and learning practice, support quality improvement and contribute to the continued development of our apprenticeship provision.

About the Role

As Quality Lead Practitioner, you will be a recognised role model for excellent teaching, learning and assessment, providing coaching, mentoring and support to colleagues across the organisation, with a particular emphasis on apprenticeship delivery.

You will:

  • Coach, mentor and develop teaching and apprenticeship staff to improve teaching, learning and assessment practice
  • Support colleagues delivering apprenticeship programmes to develop their confidence, skills and understanding of effective apprenticeship pedagogy
  • Lead and deliver engaging CPD programmes that promote innovation, effective teaching practice and high-quality apprenticeship delivery
  • Work collaboratively with curriculum and apprenticeship teams to improve learner and apprentice outcomes
  • Support colleagues to develop effective approaches to teaching, assessment and progress monitoring within apprenticeship programmes
  • Conduct learning walks, teaching reviews and developmental quality activities, helping colleagues identify areas for improvement
  • Share current educational research, sector developments and best practice relating to teaching, learning and apprenticeships
  • Support quality assurance processes, awarding body requirements and curriculum improvement planning
  • Work alongside our ILT team to promote effective and innovative digital teaching practices
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the apprentice journey, from induction through to successful completion
  • Maintain a teaching commitment of approximately 10 hours per week, modelling outstanding classroom practice
Who We're Looking For

We're looking for an experienced and passionate educator who:

  • Has a proven track record of delivering outstanding teaching and achieving excellent learner outcomes
  • Has significant experience within Further Education
  • Has a strong understanding of apprenticeship delivery and the needs of apprentices, employers and teaching staff
  • Is passionate about coaching, mentoring and developing others
  • Can inspire colleagues through collaboration, innovation and leadership
  • Has a strong understanding of quality improvement, teaching and learning strategies and current FE and apprenticeship sector developments
  • Understands how effective teaching, assessment, progress monitoring and employer engagement contribute to successful apprenticeship outcomes

Experience of supporting or leading apprenticeship delivery, developing apprenticeship staff, staff development, conducting learning walks or lesson observations, or mentoring colleagues would be highly advantageous.
