Job summary

Owen Daniels in South Birmingham is seeking an experienced Quality Manager to lead its quality function within a fast-paced aerospace manufacturing environment. You will own the site's quality strategy and actively oversee day-to-day quality activities, supporting production, customers, and suppliers.

The successful candidate will have extensive aerospace experience, a strong AS9100 background, and a hands-on approach to solving problems on the shop floor.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a Quality Manager in aerospace manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of AS9100 and aerospace quality standards.
  • Hands-on problem solving on the shop floor.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the Quality Department (5 staff).
  • Maintain and improve AS9100 QMS.
  • Lead internal, customer and third-party audits.
  • Drive 8D and 5 Why RCA and CAPA.
  • Ensure compliance with aerospace quality regulations.
  • Investigate non-conformances and implement CAPA.
  • Collaborate with production, engineering and supply chain.
  • Monitor KPIs and identify CI opportunities.
  • Manage customer quality issues and relationships.
  • Support supplier quality activities.

Job description

Owen Daniels are supporing a well‑established and growing aerospace manufacturing business based in South Birmingham, is looking to appoint an experienced Quality Manager to lead its quality function and drive continuous improvement across the business. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands‑on Quality Manager who can hit the ground running in a fast‑paced precision manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will have extensive experience working within the aerospace sector and a strong understanding of AS9100 quality management systems. Reporting directly to senior management, you will take ownership of the site's quality strategy while remaining actively involved in day‑to‑day quality activities, supporting production, customers, and suppliers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and develop the Quality Department, leading a team of 5 comprising Quality Technicians and Quality Engineers.
  • Maintain and continually improve the company's AS9100 Quality Management System .
  • Lead internal, customer and third-party audits.
  • Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions using 8D and 5 Why methodologies.
  • Ensure compliance with customer, regulatory and aerospace quality requirements.
  • Investigate non-conformances and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Work closely with production, engineering and supply chain teams to improve quality performance.
  • Monitor KPIs and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Manage customer quality issues and maintain strong customer relationships.
  • Support supplier quality activities where required.
The Candidate
  • Previous experience as a Quality Manager within an aerospace manufacturing environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of AS9100 and aerospace quality standards.
  • A hands‑on approach with the ability to solve problems on the shop floor.
  • Proven experience using 8D , 5 Why , Root Cause Analysis and continuous improvement tools.
  • Experience leading and developing quality teams.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • The ability to work independently and make confident decisions.
  • A proactive approach with the ability to make an immediate impact.
