Job summary

Matchtech Group is assisting a defence sector client at Devonport Docks in Plymouth to recruit x10 Quality Inspectors on a 12-month contract. Initial day shifts lead to a 7:00pm–5:30am night shift on a 4-on, 4-off pattern with rate uplifts for nights and weekend nights.

Key duties include QC inspection per ITPs, witness runs, calibration checks and reporting. The role requires strong QA, drawing interpretation and experience with UKAS-traceable equipment, aiming to deliver accurate reports and

Qualifications

• Experience in quality inspection or quality engineering within engineering, manufacturing, construction or defence.
• Strong understanding of Quality Plans, ITPs, drawings and inspection procedures.
• Experience in dimensional inspection and verification of critical parameters.
• Understanding of calibration requirements and UKAS-traceable equipment.
• Ability to review inspection findings and verify completed work.
• Experience producing inspection reports and maintaining quality records.
• Strong attention to detail, communication and reporting skills.
• Willingness to work night shifts on a 4-on, 4-off rota after initial day shift.

Responsibilities

• Provide quality control inspection in line with specifications, approved procedures, Quality Plans and ITPs.
• Attend kick-off meetings and supply chain capability reviews as applicable.
• Verify dimensional reports against drawings and ITPs with accuracy.
• Witness FATs and SATs; ensure testing is properly conducted.
• Confirm calibration and UKAS-traceability of inspection equipment.
• Monitor findings, report issues, and ensure qualified personnel perform activities.
• Produce daily and weekly inspection reports and LTQRs; support QA stakeholders.
• Complete final inspections and issue release certificates, aiding contract close-out.

Job description

Our client is seeking x10 Quality Inspectors to support quality engineering activities within the defence and security sector at Devonport Docks. This is an initial 12-month contract, with the first month worked on day shifts before moving to night shifts from 7:00pm to 5:30am, following a 4-on, 4-off shift pattern (Rate uplifts available for Nights and Weekend nights).

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide quality control inspection in accordance with relevant specifications, approved procedures, Quality Plans and Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs)
• Attend kick-off meetings and, where applicable, Pre-Inspection Production Meetings and supply chain capability reviews
• Verify critical parameters identified in drawings, Quality Plans and ITPs, ensuring accurate dimensional reports are produced
• Witness work activities, inspections, testing, Factory Acceptance Tests and Site Acceptance Tests
• Confirm that inspection and test equipment is suitably calibrated, including verification of UKAS accreditation or traceability where required
• Monitor inspection findings, ensuring issues are reported, corrected and verified, and that only suitably qualified and experienced personnel undertake relevant activities
• Produce daily and weekly inspection reports, report progress to the Quality Engineer or Quality Manager, and maintain Lifetime Quality Records (LTQRs)
• Complete final inspections, issue relevant release certificates and contribute to contract close-out reports where required

Job Requirements:

• Experience in quality inspection or quality engineering within an engineering, manufacturing, construction or defence environment
• Strong understanding of Quality Plans, ITPs, technical drawings and inspection procedures
• Experience of dimensional inspection, quality control and verification of critical parameters
• Understanding of calibration requirements and UKAS-traceable inspection and test equipment
• Ability to review inspection findings, manage corrective actions and verify completed work
• Experience of producing inspection reports and maintaining quality records
• Strong attention to detail, communication and reporting skills
• Willingness and ability to work night shifts on a 4-on, 4-off rota following an initial day-shift period
