Job summary

A precision engineering firm in Manchester is seeking an experienced Quality Inspector to join their team. In this role, you will inspect CNC-machined components, ensuring they meet dimensional accuracy and surface finish standards. You will work with precision measuring tools and be involved in First Article Inspections while supporting continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate has over 2 years of experience in a CNC machining or aerospace environment and is familiar with quality standards such as AS9100 and ISO 9001.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a quality inspection role within a CNC machining or aerospace environment.
  • Strong understanding of CNC turning and milling processes.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
  • Familiar with aerospace quality standards including AS9100 and ISO 9001.
  • High attention to detail, effective communication, and strong problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

Job description

We are currently recruiting on behalf of a highly respected precision engineering company based in Manchester, specialising in CNC-machined components. They are looking for an experienced Quality Inspector to join their team and play a key role in maintaining the highest levels of quality across their production processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect CNC-machined components (turning and milling) for dimensional accuracy and surface finish.
  • Use a range of precision measuring tools including micrometers, vernier calipers, bore gauges, height gauges, and CMMs.
  • Interpret technical and engineering drawings, including application of GD&T principles.
  • Conduct First Article Inspections (FAI) in accordance with AS9102 standards.
  • Accurately record and report inspection results using internal quality systems.
  • Identify and report non-conformances, and assist with root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with machinists, engineers, QA, and production teams to resolve quality issues.
  • Support internal audits and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Desirable Skills & Experience:

  • Experience using CMM software (e.g. PC-DMIS).
  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC), Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA), and digital inspection systems.
  • Familiarity with optical measurement tools and calibration systems.
  • Background in document control and quality management systems (AS9100, ISO 9001).
  • Hands-on experience in CNC machining environments.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a quality inspection role within a CNC machining or aerospace environment.
  • Strong understanding of CNC turning and milling processes.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
