Job description

Quality Inspector

Location: Hull

Key Activities:

What should the role holder do to achieve the business goals

General QC inspection but not limited to:
  • Review Quality Plans, FUD’s Inspection and Test Plans and supporting QA & NDT documentation
  • Interpretation of the intent and ensuring the requirements of codes, standards and specifications are met.
  • Liaise with QA Manager, QC-Lead and Project Leads in relation to submission of documentation and QA requirements for projects / maintenance
  • Ensuring WPS conformity (Making sure that the WPS is correct to the material type, thickness and diameter)
  • Consumable control (Ensuring the correct consumable for the process, correct thickness to applicable WPS’s and consumable control at the work area)
  • Weld fit up inspection (Checking the fit up/preparation of the area to be welded is in line to the WPS requirements and to the isometric/drawing)
  • Welder Qualification (Ensuring that the welder is qualified to perform the weld and ensuring prolongation)
  • Cleanliness inspection (Ensuring the weld area is free from debris along with the work area ensuring the area is shielded from the elements such as wind and water)
  • Material Traceability (Ensuring that heat codes are correctly monitored and transferred)
  • Material Control (Ensuring that the material matches the isometric/drawing)
  • Visual inspection of welds and material (defects on material as well as welds)
  • Ensuring against cross contamination (Ensuring that carbon steel and stainless steel do not come into contact with each other)
  • Dimensional Control (Ensuring that the fabrication matches the isometric/drawing)
  • Calibration control (Ensuring that the any machinery, gauges, measuring equipment are calibrated and in date)
  • Parameter checks (Adherence to parameters set out in the WPS)
  • Line walks/ Construction Inspection (Ensuring that the installation matches the isometric/drawing all markings are visible)
  • Raise Continuous Improvement Forms (CIFs) as appropriate and liaise with Client’s QA/QC departments
  • Ensure all quality documentation/records are maintained within the Company’s Combined Management System (CMS)
Work Packs:
  • All associated reports (Ensuring that all the required signatures are present and correctly stamped, reviewing any blank fields and applying N/A no blanks allowed)
  • Dates in the correct sequential order.
  • Checking revision against procedures
  • FUDS correct no blanks (Ensuring that all the required signatures are present and correctly stamped, reviewing any blank fields and applying N/A no blanks allowed)
  • SQEP’s personnel signing up the correct boxes, understanding inspection points.

Qualifications:
  • CSWIP Level 3.1 Welding Inspector or 3.2 Senior Welding Inspector
  • Nuclear background desirable
  • PCN level 2 – Radiographic Interpretation
  • Recognised Internal Auditor qualification
  • ONC/HNC Mechanical Engineering/BTEC/City & Guilds or equivalent experience
