Job summary

Thorlabs in Ely, UK is seeking a hands-on assembler/inspector for the MB Inspect and Pack Team. You will inspect, test, kit components, interpret work orders, and support quality improvement while maintaining paperwork accuracy.

Hours: Mon-Thu 2:35pm–11:05pm and Fri 1:05pm–8:05pm. Onsite training, with good team collaboration and opportunities to develop within the Tables unit.

Qualifications

• Hands-on approach in mechanical manufacturing or assembly.
• Ability to interpret and follow Standard Operating Procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and quality focus.
• Good verbal and written communication; teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Inspection and testing, correcting issues where possible and packing ready for shipment.
• Accurate kitting of the component parts, maintaining high stock accuracy.
• Correct interpretation of work orders and assembly instructions.
• Working within an allocated team to achieve manufacturing targets.
• Accurate processing of all paperwork.
• Support Team Leaders in workplace initiatives and cross-training.

What is the job?

As part of the MB Inspect and Pack Team you will be very much ‘hands on’ in this physical role, working as part of the production team, expressing a can-do attitude and eye for quality. You will be trained to operate within a wide range of processes and equipment, identifying opportunities to improve product quality and production output. Candidates will also be fully trained to support other areas as required, namely the assembly of Vibration Isolation Systems and Accessories Assembly.

Working Hours: Monday to Thursday 2:35pm to 11:05pm and Fridays 1:05pm to 8:05pm

Department: MB’s Tables

Interview process: 2 stage process following shortlisting – First stage: 30 minute Teams interview; Second stage: Onsite 1 hour interview

What we would like you to do/ to see…

• Inspection and testing, correcting any issues where possible and packing ready for shipment
• Accurate kitting of the component parts, maintaining high levels of component stock accuracy
• Correct interpretation of work order and assembly instructions
• Working within an allocated team to achieve scheduled manufacturing targets
• Accurate processing of all associated paperwork
• Demonstrate a willingness to support Team Leaders in the development and implementation of workplace initiatives, including but not limited to cross-training and development programmes
• Support and drive problem solving and quality/performance improvement
• Willingness to learn and support in other assembly and inspection roles within the Tables Business Unit

Ourpurpose-built facility isjust 12 miles from Cambridge, within the beautiful mediaeval city of Ely. There are train and bus links to Ely from Kings Cross and Liverpool Street London, and our site is within distance of Ely train station and Ely Bus station.
