Job summary

Jackie Kerr Recruitment Ltd is partnering with a leading electronics manufacturer in the UK to recruit two Quality Engineers. The role focuses on improving processes to achieve near-zero defects, ensuring products are delivered on time, and working with customers and suppliers to guarantee requirement flow.

You will lead QA activities, drive corrective actions using 8D and FMEA, and maintain AS9100/ISO 9001 approvals while supporting NPI and FAI reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Optimize assembly and production processes to improve quality and reduce defects.
  • Develop and review SOPs to align with ISO requirements.
  • Measure and report key quality metrics (DPMO, customer returns, yields) for improvement.
  • Lead corrective actions using 8D and FMEA with timely closures.
  • Own the Final Inspection team and ensure QA audits are effective.
  • Generate AS9102 FAI reports and support NPI activities.
  • Maintain AS9100 and ISO 9001 approvals and assist with updates.

We at JKR are working closely with a leading manufacturer, who are recruiting x2 Quality Engineers due to growth!

Quality Engineer Job Purpose:

The Quality Engineer will focus on the continuous improvement of systems and processes across the business, driving toward zero-defect levels of quality on electronic assemblies and ensuring products are delivered in full, on time. The role works closely with colleagues across all departments, and directly with customers and suppliers, to ensure requirements are fully understood and flowed through the organisation.

Quality Engineer Key Responsibilities:
  • Actively seek to optimise assembly and production processes to continuously improve quality and approach zero-defect levels of performance
  • Develop and review operating procedures to improve effectiveness, and maintain process documentation in line with ISO requirements
  • Measure, analyse and report on key quality metrics, including inspection and test yields, customer returns rates and Defects Per Million Opportunities (DPMO), to highlight areas for improvement and improvements achieved
  • Improve manufacturing yields by identifying failure modes and implementing robust corrective and preventive actions with timely closure; agree and monitor yield targets and communicate performance
  • Close out internal and customer issues using QA tools such as 8D and FMEA, and ensure effective Root Cause Analysis
  • Take ownership of Final Inspection team
  • Conduct QA audits, both internal and external, and ensure corrective actions are effective and implemented
  • Generate First Article Inspection (AS9102 FAI) reports and support New Product Introduction (NPI) activity
  • Work with the QA team in maintaining approvals for AS9100 and ISO 9001
  • Develop and keep up to date a Critical Action Register, and initiate and guide corrective action activity
  • Provide guidance and inspection to the shop floor, and coach/mentor production teams to resolve quality-related issues
  • Assist Production Managers and teams to define and implement processes that create defect-free products
  • Produce quality reports for management and customer review, and represent Quality in regular customer and supplier interfaces
  • Stimulate awareness and accountability among employees for improvement programmes raised by QA, Process, customers and suppliers
  • Ensure all policies and procedures are kept up to date, legally compliant and communicated effectively to the business
  • Ensure compliance with all Environmental, Health and Safety policies and 5S principles
  • Continuously identify cost savings within the company and successfully implement them
  • Attend company meetings and training courses as appropriate
Quality Engineer Skills & Knowledge:
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and effective Root Cause Analysis
  • Attention to detail, with a strong focus on quality and process discipline
  • Confident and effective verbal and written communication, including report writing and influencing skills
  • Strong team-working ability, balanced with the ability to work on own initiative to resolve issues quickly
  • A “can-do”, customer-focused attitude, combined with tenacity and the desire to succeed
  • Awareness of business improvement techniques such as 5 Whys and 7 Wastes
  • Strong IT skills, including Excel and PowerPoint
  • A hands-on approach to manufacturing issues, and the ability to work under pressure and prioritise effectively
  • Demonstrated knowledge ofISO 9001 or similar standards
  • Experience within electronics manufacturing (desirable)
Quality Engineer Working Hours & Benefits:
  • 08:30-17:00 Monday-Thursday 08:30-16:00 Fridays
