Job summary

The Openwork Partnership in Swindon is seeking a mid-level Quality Engineer to own automated testing across unit, API, and end-to-end layers. You will embed quality gates into CI/CD pipelines and work closely with developers to prevent defects and raise quality as a shared outcome.

This hybrid role requires three days in the Swindon office and offers a salary up to £55,000 with a 10% on-target bonus plus a pension match and other benefits.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Quality Engineer or Software Developer in Test, building automated test suites in live systems.
• Experience as an embedded member of an engineering team, not a separate QA function.
• Strong experience integrating quality gates into CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or similar).
• Experience with observability tooling in cloud environments.
• Familiarity with security testing principles (OWASP, SAST, dependency scanning).
• Extensive .NET testing and API/automation tooling experience.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve the automated test suite across unit, integration, API, and end-to-end layers using the .NET stack.
• Embed quality gates into CI/CD pipelines, including automated tests, coverage thresholds, and build-breaking checks.
• Champion shift-left quality practices, identifying risks, gaps, and ambiguities early in the delivery lifecycle.
• Build observability across services — logging, alerting, and synthetic monitoring.
• Develop AI-assisted testing approaches, ensuring safe and governed use.
• Define and maintain the test strategy, balancing automation and exploratory testing.
• Collaborate with engineers to triage and resolve defects, identifying root causes.
• Contribute to performance and load testing where required.
• Support release decisions with objective, evidence-based quality insights.
• Collaborate across tribes to drive consistent quality standards and tooling.

As a Quality Engineer,you’llbe an embedded engineer, working alongside developers to prevent defects, build robust automation, and ensure quality is a shared outcome.

This is a hands-on, mid-level role for someone who alreadyoperatesthis way: an engineer who specialises in quality, not a tester adding automation as an afterthought.

This is a hybrid role based in Swindon, with the requirement to be in the office 3 days a week.

What will you need to succeed?

• Proven experience as a Quality Engineer or Software Developer in Test, building automated test suites in live systems
• Experience working as an embedded member of an engineering team (not a separate QA function)
• Strong experience integrating quality gates into CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or similar)
• Experience with observability tooling in cloud environments
• Technical Expertise:
  • Strong .NET development skills, writing clean, maintainable test code
  • Experience with testing frameworks (xUnit,NUnit,MSTest) and mocking tools (Moq,NSubstitute)
  • Proven experience testing APIs and services (REST, automation tools such asRestSharp, Postman/Newman)
  • Practical experience with end-to-end automation tools (Playwright, Selenium)
  • CI/CD experience with pipeline optimisation and test execution strategies
  • Familiarity with observability tools (Application Insights, Azure Monitor)
  • Exposure to performance testing tools (k6, JMeter,NBomber)
• Awareness of security testing principles (e.g. OWASP, SAST, dependency scanning)
