Job summary

Senior Aerospace Thermal Engineering is seeking a Quality Engineer to ensure compliance with AS9100 and customer requirements while driving a data-driven, zero-defect culture across the business. You will work with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, Customers and Suppliers to support product conformity and continuous improvement.

In this role, you will deploy quality tools, manage supplier quality, participate in NPI activities and use data to reduce variation and prevent defects.

Qualifications

  • Must have right to work in the UK.
  • An engineering, manufacturing, quality, statistics or data analytics degree or equivalent.
  • Proven aerospace quality experience with AS9100 is desirable.
  • Experience with PFMEA, Control Plans, SPC, MSA, Gauge R&R is expected.
  • Internal Auditor training/qualification is preferred.
  • Strong data-driven analytical abilities to interpret quality data and trends.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, GD&T and customer requirements.
  • Experience with Excel and measurement systems is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with AS9100, customer requirements, and regulatory standards across products and QMS.
  • Drive zero-defect culture through continuous improvement and risk-based thinking.
  • Lead root cause investigations (8D, 5 Why, Fishbone, DMAIC) for complaints and non-conformances.
  • Support MRB activities, containment, risk assessment and disposition.
  • Coordinate corrective and preventive actions with cross-functional teams.
  • Support NPI activities with PFMEAs, Control Plans and production readiness.
  • Prepare FAIRs and ensure timely submission per AS9102 and customer needs.
  • Develop and maintain quality documentation, inspections and traceability.

Job Description

The Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring compliance with customer, regulatory, and Quality Management System requirements while driving a data-driven, zero-defect culture across the business. Working closely with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, Customers, and Suppliers, the role supports product conformity, process capability, risk reduction, and continuous improvement through structured problem solving, quality planning, auditing, and statistical analysis.

Operating within an AS9100 environment, the role supports customer satisfaction through effective deployment of quality tools, robust process controls, supplier quality management, New Product Introduction (NPI) activities, and the use of data to improve quality performance, reduce variation, and prevent defects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with AS9100, customer requirements, and applicable regulatory standards across products, processes, and the Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Drive a Zero-Defect Culture through continuous improvement, defect prevention, and risk-based thinking, reducing process variation, COPQ, scrap, rework and customer escapes.
  • Lead structured root cause investigations into customer complaints, quality escapes, supplier issues, and internal non-conformances, utilising structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone Analysis and DMAIC.
  • Support daily Material Review Board (MRB) activities, ensuring timely containment, risk assessment, disposition, and reduction of non-conforming products.
  • Facilitate cross-functional problem-solving activities, ensuring corrective and preventive actions are robust, sustainable and implemented in a timely manner.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities by ensuring effective deployment of quality planning and risk management tools, including PFMEAs, Control Plans, Process Validation, APQP deliverables and Production Readiness Reviews.
  • Compile First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) in accordance with AS9102 and customer requirements, ensuring timely submission.
  • Prepare, review and coordinate product concessions, deviation permits and any RFI from customer.
  • Develop and maintain quality documentation, procedures, inspection plans; ensuring document control, traceability, and configuration management.
  • Drive a data-driven approach to quality management through the deployment of Statistical Process Control (SPC), process capability monitoring (Cp/Cpk), Measurement System Analysis (MSA).
  • Plan, conduct, and support internal audits, ensuring effective closure of findings and continuous compliance.
  • Manage supplier quality performance through audits, corrective actions, performance monitoring, and supplier development initiatives.
  • Act as the Voice of the Customer by promoting customer requirements, product conformity, and quality performance throughout the organisation.
  • Develop and maintain quality KPI and visual management tools that support fact-based decision-making and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
  • Must have right to work in the UK
  • HNC, HND or Degree qualified in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Statistics, Data Analytics, or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
  • Proven experience in a Quality Engineering role within a manufacturing environment; aerospace (AS9100 and AS13100) experience is desirable.
  • Working knowledge of quality toolkit, including PFMEA, Control Plans, SPC, MSA, Gauge R&R.
  • Internal Auditor training or qualification
  • Strong analytical and data-driven approach, with the ability to interpret quality data, identify trends, and drive improvement.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel, Minitab, CMM and/or FARO measurement systems would be advantageous.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and committed to continuous improvement, customer satisfaction, and Zero-Defect principles.

  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt qualification
  • Lead Auditor qualification
