Job summary

Sizewell C is seeking a Quality Engineer to support the delivery of quality requirements across the project lifecycle, from design and procurement through to manufacturing, construction, commissioning and handover. You will work within the PDO quality team to ensure suppliers and contractors comply with standards and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Experience in project delivery, preferably within the nuclear power sector, with significant focus on project quality.

• Knowledge of nuclear sector standards and quality systems (ISO 9001/related) is desirable.

Contract: Permanent, full-time

Salary: Starting from £56,506 depending on experience, plus benefits

Benefits include:

Annual Leave: 28 days per annum, increasing to 30 days after 5 years of service, plus bank holidays

Role Overview:

The Quality Engineer will support the delivery of quality requirements across the full Sizewell C project lifecycle, from design and procurement through to manufacturing, construction, commissioning and handover. Working within the project delivery organisation (PDO) quality team, you will ensure suppliers and contractors comply with project quality standards, contractual requirements and industry regulations. The role is focused on supplier quality assurance, audits, inspections, surveillance activities and the management of non-conformances, helping to drive right first-time delivery and minimise quality risks across the programme. Working closely with project teams, supply chain partners and key stakeholders, you will provide quality expertise and oversight to ensure equipment, services and documentation are delivered safely, compliantly and to the required standards.

Role Responsibilities:

Planning and Documentation

• Support the preparation and maintenance of Project Quality Control Plans (PQCPs) for assigned contracts and projects.
• Produce and maintain quality-related documentation, including procedures and specifications.
• Support implementation of the Quality Execution Plan and monitor programme compliance and performance.
• Assist with the development and review of supplier quality requirements within Invitation to Tender (ITT) documentation.
• Ensure quality management processes are appropriately applied throughout the supply chain.

Supply Chain Assurance and Governance

• Support the review, acceptance and monitoring of Contractor Quality Assurance Plans (CQAPs).
• Provide guidance to contractors on quality requirements, LTQR partitioning strategies and Quality Related Activities.
• Support supplier audit activities and track the resolution of audit findings.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Identify, escalation and support mitigation of quality risks and issues.

Inspection, Surveillance and Testing

• Coordinate manufacturing and construction surveillance activities in line with contractual requirements.
• Review supplier Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and support witness point allocation.
• Monitor inspection activities performed by contracted inspection entities.
• Participate in inspections, surveillance activities and audits as required.

LTQR and Records Management

• Support the deployment of contractual quality requirements including GQAS, LTQR specifications and quality release certificates.
• Coordinate LTQR reviews and progressive provision strategies.
• Support quality release and handover activities through review of manufacturing documentation and records.

Review, Acceptance and Close-Out

• Support the review and acceptance of manufacturing and construction documentation.
• Monitor non-conformances and track corrective actions to closure.
• Assist with the acceptance of End of Manufacturing Reports (EoMR), End of Construction Status Reports (ECSR) and End of Erection Status Reports (EESR).
• Support equipment quality release and project handover activities.

About you:

Knowledge & Skills

• Experience in project delivery, preferably within the nuclear power sector, with significant focus on project quality.
• Solid understanding of quality assurance and quality control within major engineering, procurement, manufacturing, construction and commissioning projects.
• Strong understanding of quality management best practice within large, complex and contract-led organisations.
• Confident and proficient in the use of IT systems and digital tools.
• Knowledge of quality systems, ISO 9001, ISO 19443, IAEA GSR-2 and related standards.
• Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels.
• Ability to support and implement practical solutions while remaining open to alternative approaches.
• Experience of interfacing with project teams and supply chain organisations.
• Experience analysing data, producing reports and making recommendations.
• Ability to influence stakeholders and provide constructive challenge.
• Strong relationship-building skills with internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaborative team player with a proactive and flexible approach.
• Knowledge of the nuclear sector, ideally within new build projects.
• Knowledge and understanding of Nuclear Site Licence Conditions.
• Knowledge of pressure and nuclear codes.
• Knowledge of Welding, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) and Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE).

Qualifications & Experience

• HNC/HND, Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant science or engineering discipline.
• Experience of implementing a variety of quality-related solutions.
• Proven track record of delivering results.
• Proven experience within a quality assurance and/or quality control environment in the nuclear industry or another relevant safety-critical industry.
• Experience resolving issues with a wide range of stakeholders within a multicultural environment.
• Professional accreditation, including IRCA Certified Auditor.
• Chartered Quality Institute membership or working towards Chartered Quality Professional status.
• Commercial and supplier management exposure.
• Experience interacting with regulators, such as the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR).
• Knowledge of improvement methodologies, tools and techniques such as Lean Six Sigma.
