Overview
An opportunity has arisen for a Quality Engineer to join Volker Rail Specialist Businesses, supporting our Signalling and Telecoms team working on jobs across the whole of the UK.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with cross functional teams to address quality issues, drive continuous improvement, and contribute to delivering high-quality projects that exceed customer expectations.
- Engage others to develop a strong culture of Right First Time, by delivering impactful communications, quality briefings and visits to site.
- Be the point of contact for all quality issues, providing guidance and instruction, and promoting understanding that quality is a core part of everyone\'s role.
- Analyse trends in non-conformance, design/installation & test log data to identify areas for improvement.
- Work collaboratively with the wider business to identify root causes of issues and ensure effective and sustainable resolutions are implemented.
- Identify, track and analyse the costs associated with poor quality and implement appropriate action plans to address and mitigate these costs.
- Produce project quality documentation such as Contract Quality Plans, quality risk assessments, quality reports and monthly presentations.
- Work closely with the Engineering team to ensure ongoing revision and review of project ITPs, maintain a register to track the necessary approvals and work inspection sheets, and monitor compliance with ITP requirements.
- Lead and undertake audits and inspections based on ISO 9001:2015 and internal requirements.
- Work with sub-contractors and suppliers to reinforce quality requirements and upskill where necessary.
- Ensure compliance with VRSB and Network Rail standards, identify issues, recommend solutions and improvements, and update the Integrated Management System (IMS) accordingly.
- Be the quality team representative for multiple locations across the country, mainly in the North West and Central area.
- Engage with site teams to promote a positive collaborative working culture. The role will involve up to 50% travel UK-wide, for audits, inspections and meetings.
- Regular instances of working unsociable hours are required (this will include nights, weekends etc).
Requirements / Qualifications
- Hold a BTEC/HNC or equivalent in engineering. Experience relating to Signalling or Telecoms would be particularly beneficial.
- Experience in a Quality Engineering role ideally in the rail/construction industry, but other backgrounds will be considered.
- Qualified Internal auditor for ISO9001.
- Hands-on experience with an Integrated Management System (IMS).
- Good understanding of Engineering documentation.
- Experience of root cause analysis techniques such as 8D, Ishikawa, 5 Whys.
- Proficient in MS Office applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- Excellent data analysis skills.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
