*** Quality Engineer ***

Location: Crewe (Onsite)

Contract Duration: Until 27/02/2026 (+ extensions)

Day Rate: Outside IR35

Job Purpose

This role is responsible for establishing and enforcing the systems and processes required to deliver quality for low volume vehicle projects.

The role interfaces with all stages of the vehicle process, from Engineering target definition, through supplier quality management, receiving inspection, production quality, and vehicle sign-off.

Provides quality steering and leadership to ensure robust communication, planning, and delivery of quality, and acts as the first point of contact for part or vehicle quality concerns.

Main Responsibilities:

Bought Parts Quality

  • Establishing control plans and ensuring conformity of all bought parts through supplier management and part receiving inspection.
  • Supplier selection
  • Managing accreditations (IATF, VDA)
  • Conducting supplier audits
  • Assessment methods (e.g., QTR, supplier performance)
  • Bought part quality planning
  • APQP / Maturity Level Assurance (including part test requirements)
  • Part approval and compliance

Build Quality Checkpoints

  • Establishing when and how quality checks are applied during vehicle build and acting as the first escalation point for issues.
  • Surface gap/profile checks
  • Matching
  • Function testing (e.g., closures)
  • Joint overchecks
  • Recording vehicle checks traceably

End of Line Quality / Vehicle Sign-Off

  • Defining functional and cosmetic attributes for vehicle release and acting as escalation point for issues.

0 MIS Vehicle Problem Analysis

  • Supporting sales in analyzing pre-handover vehicle issues (e.g., shakedown testing, cosmetic concerns)

Liaison with GQ Functions

  • Direct communication with GQ responsible parties to ensure alignment, clear communication, and effective issue resolution.

Skills & Experience

  • Experience with low volume supplier management
  • Knowledge of automotive quality standards and requirements
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and understanding of tolerances
  • Understanding of vehicle assembly processes
  • Strong planning, project, and time management skills
