Job summary

Square One Resources is seeking an experienced Quality Engineer - Mobile Applications to join a cross-functional Scrum team developing a customer-facing travel app for a global financial services organisation. The role emphasizes automated testing, risk-based strategies and quality ownership across mobile apps, APIs and end-to-end journeys.

The position requires hands-on mobile testing, API validation, and familiarity with CI/CD pipelines.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience testing mobile applications and backend APIs.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with engineers, product owners and stakeholders to define requirements, acceptance criteria and quality risks.
• Develop risk-based test strategies covering functional and non-functional requirements.
• Design, maintain and integrate automated tests for mobile applications, APIs and end-to-end customer journeys.
• Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines to support fast feedback and reliable releases.
• Conduct exploratory, integration, regression, compatibility and usability testing across devices, operating systems and environments.
• Validate API integrations, data flows, error handling and third-party dependencies.
• Investigate defects using logs, test results, metrics and production insights.
• Promote shift-left testing, testability, peer reviews and shared quality ownership within the Scrum team.
• Contribute reusable automation frameworks, engineering standards and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Use AI-assisted engineering responsibly to enhance test design, automation and productivity.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Quality Engineer - Mobile Applications to join a cross-functional Scrum team developing a customer-facing travel application for a global financial services organisation.

This is an engineering-led quality role focused on preventing defects, improving customer experience and ensuring reliable software delivery through risk-based testing, automation and early identification of quality issues.

You will work closely with developers, product owners and stakeholders throughout the software development lifecycle, contributing to mobile, API and end-to-end test automation while promoting shared ownership of product quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Based within a reasonable commuting distance of Burgess Hill and able to work on-site three days per week.

• Strong understanding of software development lifecycles, testing principles, defect management and risk-based testing.
• Experience with source control, build tools and CI/CD pipelines.

• Demonstrable ownership of reliability, usability, accessibility and overall product quality.
• Native or cross-platform mobile automation tools, including testing on physical devices or emulators.
