Job summary

TQR Consultancy Ltd is partnering with a Devon-based manufacturer to recruit a Quality Controller at a growth stage. You will inspect materials, monitor processes, and ensure products meet quality, safety, and regulatory standards.

Reporting to the Operations Director, you will use 2D/3D drawings, document results, and drive continuous improvements with production, design and procurement teams. This hands-on role requires attention to detail, organisational skills, and a proactive, collaborative

Responsibilities

  • Examine raw materials and components before production.
  • Conduct first-off and final inspections of materials, WIP, and finished goods; verify design conformity.
  • Ensure timely recording of inspections for dispatch.
  • Implement and monitor quality procedures at each production stage.
  • Identify non-conformities and raise issues with relevant teams.
  • Maintain quality records, test results and reports for monthly packs.
  • Suggest materials/process improvements to enhance quality.
  • Support root-cause analysis and corrective actions.

Job Description

TQR are working exclusively with a Manufacturer based in Devon to recruit A Quality Controller at the start of a growth journey for the business. Reporting to the Operations Director the successful candidate will ensure all products meet the highest quality, safety, and regulatory standards. You will inspect materials, monitor production processes, report non-conformities, and collaborate across departments to prevent defects and improve processes. This role requires excellent attention to detail, organisational skills, and the ability to work proactively with the production, design and wider teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Examine raw materials and components before production.
  • Conduct first-off and final inspections of materials, WIP, and finished goods.
    Verify that production outputs meet design specifications.
  • Ensure all products are checked and recorded in-time for dispatch.
  • Implement and monitor quality procedures at each production stage.
  • Ensure all processes and procedures are being carried out correctly.
  • Identify non-conformities and raise them with relevant teams.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records, test results, and quality logs.
    Prepare quality reports for monthly reports and customer support packs.
  • Suggest improvements in materials, processes, or assembly methods to enhance product quality.
    Participate in root-cause analysis of quality issues and support corrective actions.
  • Work with design, production, and procurement teams to address quality concerns.
  • Train or advise staff on quality standards and best practices.
  • Support inspections and certifications to maintain regulatory and safety compliance.

Essential Experience, Skills & Candidate Attributes Required:

  • Proven experience working in a similar quality control role with a Manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to interpret 2D and 3D technical drawings.
  • Strong documentation, reporting, and organisational skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, target-driven environment.
  • Motivated, driven, and ambitious.
  • Team-focused, able to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Physically fit, able to be active and hands-on in the production environment.
  • Reliable and proactive in identifying and resolving issues.
  • Full clean Driving Licence.

Desirable Qualification, Knowledge & Experience (non essential):

  • Forklift licence gained from an external training provider.
  • Previous experience or knowledge of upholstery skills.
  • Knowledge of ISO management systems.
