Job description

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Carrying out microbiological techniques including sterility tests, total viable counts, microbiological assay, preservative efficacy tests and endotoxin tests, according to written procedures, or pharmacopoeial monographs.

Reading microbiological results from environmental monitoring plates including settle and contact plates, broth transfer tests and record those results using LIMS systems.

Carrying out booking-in of samples onto the laboratory LIMS system and spreadsheets

Assisting in the maintenance and update of written methods and worksheets for all procedures carried out in the laboratories.

Assisting in maintaining media, reagent and glassware stocks, ordering and accepting deliveries from appropriate suppliers and checking against the appropriate documentation for invoice approval, where applicable.

Supporting work in the Chemistry laboratory when required.

This is a 9 month fixed term contract to cover maternity leave and is available from 5th January 2026.

Interview dates are planned for Tuesday 4th November.

Person specification
Experience
  • At least 1 years' experience in a range of QC microbiological techniques for example testing of TVC, sterility, media fertility/growth promotion tests.
  • Able to plan own workload to meet laboratory deadlines Demonstrate flexibility be able to alter workflow to meet changing Department and Pharmacy deadlines
  • Thorough and accurate work required for interpretation of laboratory results & Judgement required for prompt reporting to senior member of staff where necessary
  • Able to lift and transport heavy equipment/boxes around site Must have a good level of dexterity to carry out aseptic and analytical techniques within laminar flow cabinets and fumehoods. Able to following procedures for entering and working in clean rooms wearing required PPE.
  • Good communication skills, able to liaise with the colleagues to arrange the day to day work requirements
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in environmental monitoring of cleanrooms, experience of using LIMS systems to book in samples and enter results
Training and Education
Essential criteria
  • Educated to a minimum of A Levels of equivalent in Biology/Chemistry
Desirable criteria
  • A degree in Biological Sciences
