Job description

Quality Control Technician (JR10008112) Leiston, England

Purpose of the role

The duties of the Quality Control Technician include routinely inspecting/testing and sampling concrete and aggregates in accordance with Heidelberg Materials UK standards and those set by EDF. The technician manages and conducts all activities related to Health & Safety, Environmental, and Quality as outlined in operational procedures.

The key responsibilities are:

  • Health & Safety: Adhere to safety protocols and report near misses and issues to management.
  • Testing & Quality Control: Perform laboratory and field tests on concrete and aggregate materials (e.g., sampling, slump tests, compressive strength tests), ensuring compliance with industry standards such as ASTM, BS EN, or local regulations. Analyze test data and prepare detailed reports.
  • Material Inspection: Inspect raw materials (cement, sand, limestone, admixtures) for quality and suitability. Monitor on-site material deliveries and verify against specifications.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate logs of sampling data and moisture testing.
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure all testing and sampling procedures follow safety and regulatory standards.
  • Project Coordination: Participate in site visits to collect aggregate samples and assess conditions. Adhere to EDF Code of Conduct for Sizewell C.

Key accountabilities

  • Follow and comply with NNB Health & Safety procedures and Heidelberg Materials UK policies, conforming to the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.
  • Inspect materials accurately and test them according to approved procedures.
  • Analyze concrete batch tickets for compliance with mix design.
  • Visually inspect incoming raw materials and report discrepancies.
  • Report any defects or issues affecting health & safety, environment, or quality.
  • Ensure compliance with EDF policies on health & safety, environment, quality control, and other regulations.
  • Maintain site cleanliness, safety, and security at all times.
  • Foster good relationships with third parties and contractors.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Job requirements

  • Contribute to cost-effective product manufacturing through technical expertise.
  • Maintain product quality levels aligned with operational and customer needs.
  • Perform sampling, field testing, and specimen preparation per standards and procedures.
  • Review water demands and site practices, and monitor product consistency.
  • Challenge unsafe or poor-quality behaviors.
  • Assist with transportation of test specimens.

Education/Qualifications

  • Good general education with understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Level 1 award training.
  • CSCS card for construction sites and nuclear projects.
  • SSSTS (optional).
