Your Opportunity

An opportunity exists for a highly motivated individual to join our team in the Dartmouth office as a Quality Assurance Painting Inspector.

Your Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate for the Quality Assurance Painting Inspector will be responsible for inspecting all blast and paint operations on bridges. This position is responsible for ensuring the contractor conducts all blasting and painting operations in accordance with contract requirements and specifications.

1. Complete in-process and final visual inspections of all blasting and coating operations to ensure compliance on surface preparation and coating as per standard.
2. Perform testing on surface profile, salt content, coating thickness, adhesion.
3. Ensure inspection equipment is calibrated and serviceable.
4. Ensure the contractor’s materials are stored and handled according to manufacturer’s requirements.
5. Generate and maintain quality records in support of the inspection and test plan.
6. Read and interpret production drawings and specifications to identify quality requirements.
7. Document non-conformances in the NCR database and complete root cause analysis.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

1. Understand all aspects of marine surface preparation and coating application, including applying protective coatings including using spray equipment.
2. Technical Skills – required skills to apply knowledge.
3. An understanding of different types of coatings, surface preparation methods, spray paint methods, standards and safety protocols.
4. Ability to read and understand specifications and drawings.
5. Strong working knowledge of MS Office 365, MS Teams and SharePoint.
6. Knowledge of airless spray guns, spray equipment, and other surface preparation and coating tools. Full understanding and able to perform destructive and nondestructive testing.
7. Attention to details is required, ability to perform precise measurements and visual inspections.
8. Social Process Skills – required skills for effective working relationships.
9. Strong communication skills to interact with applicators, trades employees, and co-workers.
10. Strong relationship management skills and ability to deal with conflict.

Education and Experience

1. At least 5 years of experience in industrial coating application.
2. Preferred candidates must have AMPP Certified Coating Inspector certification, or equivalent (e.g., NACE -CIP or SSPC PCI).
3. Completion of some College / CEGEP / Vocational or Technical Training.
