I & H Brown in Scotland is seeking a Quality Assurance Lead to uphold the highest standards of quality and compliance across our Civils business. This permanent, full-time role focuses on implementing robust quality systems and driving continuous improvement.

You will collaborate with the senior management team to ensure quality processes align with growth, framework delivery, digital transformation, and operational priorities, while leading audits, NCR handling, and client liaison to maintain

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in quality assurance within civil/construction.
  • ISO 9001 expertise with proven implementation, auditing and improvement experience.
  • Experience reviewing, rewriting and improving business processes in construction or civil engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of the construction industry; civil engineering delivery preferred.
  • Experience preparing and managing project quality plans, inspection & test plans, NCRs and handover docs.
  • Familiarity with common data environments like Viewpoint, BIM 360 or ProjectWise.
  • Strong analytical skills for interpreting specs, drawings and quality records.
  • Internal auditor qualification for ISO 9001 is desirable.
  • CSCS card and SHEQ training preferred.
  • Collaborative, proactive, organised with ability to manage multiple priorities on live projects.
  • Confident in driving continuous improvement.

  • Work with senior management to ensure quality processes support growth and delivery models.
  • Prepare and review Project Quality Plans, ITPs and assurance deliverables for civil projects.
  • Conduct audits, inspections, and surveillance for compliance.
  • Lead NCR identification, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.

Job description

The Quality Assurance Lead will play a pivotal role in ensuring the highest standards of quality and compliance within our Civils business. Based in Scotland, this permanent, full-time position is essential for maintaining our reputation for excellence and reliability in the industry. The successful candidate will implement robust quality control processes and foster a culture of continuous improvement across all operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Review, develop, enhance, and maintain the ISO 9001-aligned QMS to ensure it reflects current industry standards and business strategy.
  • Lead structured reviews of existing quality-related processes, procedures and workflows. Rewrite to improve and align with strategic objectives and industry requirements.
  • Work with the senior management team to ensure quality processes support business growth, framework delivery models, digital transformation and operational priorities.
  • Prepare and review Project Quality Plans, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and assurance deliverables for civil engineering projects.
  • Conduct audits, inspections and surveillance to verify compliance.
  • Lead NCR identification, root-cause analysis and corrective action implementation, ensuring lessons learned feed into updated processes.
  • Liaise with clients, designers and subcontractors to resolve quality issues and maintain transparent communication.
  • Ensure that quality records, test certificates, inspection reports, and handover documentation are complete, accurate, and stored correctly.
  • Identify trends and improvement opportunities across projects and embed them into revised processes and business-wide systems.
  • To be aware of all Company Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) policies, procedures, and management systems. To ensure their application as they relate to your areas of responsibility.
  • Attend training and development activities as required.
  • Undertake any such duties which may be ascribed to the role (from time to time).

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field.

  • Competence in common data environment platforms such as Viewpoint, BIM 360 or ProjectWise.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret specifications, drawings, test data and quality records.
  • Internal auditor qualification for ISO 9001 is desirable.
  • CSCS card and relevant SHEQ training are preferred.
  • Collaborative approach, with the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams and influence positive change.
  • Proactive, organised and able to manage multiple priorities across live projects and business improvement initiatives.
  • Confident in challenging and driving continuous improvement.
