Job summary

Prismatic Ltd. designs and manufactures high-value aerospace products at our Alton site in Hampshire, with occasional support for Oxford and the USA.

The Quality Assurance Engineer will drive QMS implementation, support engineering and manufacturing, and help deliver compliant, safe products to customers. Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a Quality Assurance Engineer, Quality Technician, or similar role.
  • Experience in a regulated sector (e.g., automotive, aerospace, defence, industrial components).
  • Strong understanding of quality methodologies (ISO 9001, Six Sigma, Lean).
  • Experience with testing tools, inspection equipment and calibration requirements.
  • Ability to analyse data and create meaningful reports.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Engineering & Manufacturing support: work with engineering and manufacturing teams to resolve query notes and change requests.
  • Process and system management: design, implement, and monitor the quality management system.
  • Auditing and inspections: conduct audits and inspections against standards and safety requirements.
  • Documentation: create, review and approve quality manuals, non-conformances, audit plans and batch records.
  • Problem solving: investigate customer complaints to identify root causes and prevent recurrence.
  • Reporting: analyse and report on quality performance using data-driven insights.
  • Collaboration: work across departments to develop new procedures and improve performance.
  • Risk management: identify, evaluate, and mitigate potential quality risks.
  • Supplier quality management: coordinate with suppliers to ensure compliance and conduct inspections.

Job description

Prismatic is a technology development company, specialising in the design, manufacture and delivery of innovative, high value aerospace products and systems. Prismatic is a subsidiary of BAE systems, led by a technically and commercially focused team. Our cutting-edge systems (such as the high-altitude PHASA-35) have clear commercial value, are developed at pace and address critical customer needs.

The Quality Assurance Engineer will have responsibility for ensuring that products, processes, and systems consistently meet required quality standards. This role plays a key part in preventing defects, improving operational performance, and supporting compliance activities. Working closely with Engineering and Operational Manufacturing teams, the Quality Assurance Engineer drives continuous improvement and helps deliver reliable, safe, and compliant products to customers.

You will work with the business functional teams to drive implementation and maintenance of a quality management system (QMS) within the business framework. The successful candidate will display strong interpersonal skills and a can-do attitude, with the ability to communicate effectively with employees from all levels of the business.

You will be active in engineering, manufacturing and production areas of the business at our primary site in Alton, with occasional requirements to potentially support our Oxford site and one location in the USA (remotely).

This role will report into the Head of Business Operations who has the delegated responsibility as the business Quality Manager.

Tasks and Accountabilities
  • Engineering & Manufacturing support: Working closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to support efficient resolution to query notes and change requests
  • Process and system management: Designing, implementing, and monitoring the quality management system (QMS) to ensure processes are correct from the start.
  • Quality standards: Determining and ensuring compliance with both internal and external quality standards (as required).
  • Auditing and inspections: Conducting audits and inspections to check products, services, and processes against established standards and safety requirements.
  • Documentation: Creating, reviewing, and approving documents such as quality manual, Non-Conformance, Audit & Assurance plans and batch records to ensure they are accurate, up-to-date, and compliant.
  • Problem‑solving: Investigating customer complaints or product issues to identify root causes and recommend solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Reporting: Analysing and reporting on quality performance, using statistical information to guide decision‑making.
  • Collaboration: Working with colleagues across departments to develop new procedures and improve performance.
  • Risk management: Identifying, evaluating, and mitigating potential risks that could impact the quality of a product or service.
  • Supplier quality management: Work with suppliers to ensure they comply with company standards and regulatory requirements, including inspections and assurance audits – in collaboration with the Quality Control Engineer.
Requirements
  • Proven experience in a Quality Assurance Engineer, Quality Technician, or similar role.
  • Experience in a regulated sector (e.g., automotive, aerospace, defence, industrial components).
  • Strong understanding of quality methodologies (e.g., ISO 9001, Six Sigma, Lean).
  • Experience with testing tools, inspection equipment and calibration requirements
  • Ability to analyse data and create meaningful reports.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
Preferred:
  • Formal Lean or Six Sigma certification (Yellow/Green Belt).
  • Experience with ERP/MRP and QMS systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and using computer systems.
  • Ability to mentor and train other users.
  • Careful and organised approach to tasks.
  • Reliable in respect of quality and timeliness of deliverable items.
  • Evidence of taking ownership of problems/high level requirements.
