Job description

Job description

Aspire People are currently looking for a passionate and innovative Class Teacher to join a highly regarded and inclusive special needs school in Stoke-on-Trent.

This is a rewarding opportunity to join a specialist setting that supports pupils with a wide range of complex learning needs.

The school serves pupils aged 4 to 16, all of whom have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). The majority of students have significant Communication and Interaction needs and access learning through a person-centred, highly engaging framework that promotes independence, curiosity, and personal development.

About the Role:

You'll be teaching a mixed-age primary class within the Explore Pathway, working with pupils who have a range of complex needs including CLD, SLCN, ASC, and SpLD. This role would particularly suit a teacher with experience or strong interest in Early Years or KS1 approaches, especially play-based, exploratory learning. We welcome applications from teachers in other phases who are creative, adaptable, and driven by inclusive values.

The Ideal Candidate Will:
  • Hold qualified teacher status (QTS or equivalent)
  • Have previous experience teaching pupils with SEND (in mainstream or special settings)
  • Demonstrate strong skills in planning and delivering personalised learning
  • Be knowledgeable in EYFS practices, informal learning, and multi-sensory approaches
  • Understand the Engagement Model and augmentative communication systems
  • Show confidence in managing challenging behaviour and using de-escalation strategies
Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan, assess, and report on progress in line with individual EHCP outcomes
  • Create a stimulating and safe classroom environment that encourages independence
  • Deliver lessons that are tailored to diverse learning needs and styles
  • Work closely with classroom support staff and multidisciplinary teams to support holistic development

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dedicated and forward-thinking team in a nurturing environment where every success is celebrated and every child is valued.
