Role Purpose
• To provide a high-quality and effective social work service that responds to the needs of people with lived experiences, their informal carers, and families in a timely manner and within statutory guidelines. All assessments and support plans will be completed in accordance with the wellbeing principles of the Care Act 2014 and reflect a strengths-based approach.
• Guidance, support, and supervision will be provided in accordance with the individual’s experience and capabilities and in line with our Supervision Policy.
Role Summary
Harrow’s Adult Social Care Social Worker role offers an opportunity for newly qualified social workers to undertake their Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) within our adult service, which is committed to providing high-quality support, assessment, and intervention with residents, carers, and families. Harrow provides extensive training and development opportunities to help you develop excellent social work practice and advance your career at your own pace. Newly qualified social workers will start at Grade 9, with support, close supervision, and a reduced caseload. Upon successful completion of the ASYE programme, Social Workers will progress through the Grade 9 pay scale and manage an increased caseload.
Job Context (Key outputs of team/role)
1. Demonstrate ability to work with people with lived experiences, respecting the council’s Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion policy.
2. Complete strengths-based Care Act and Mental Capacity assessments in a timely manner.
3. Prioritize work under pressure, adapt to changing demands, and meet deadlines.
4. Develop person-centred support plans that reflect the wishes of people with lived experiences and/or their advocates.
5. Contribute to the prevention of harm to maximize safety and wellbeing.
Main Duties: Career Grade (G9)
1. Undertake strengths-based Care Act assessments for individuals and informal carers.
2. Support individuals in managing risks and enhancing independence to prevent harm.
3. Work in a person-centred manner with individuals and carers to maximize independence, wellbeing, and choice.
4. Apply social work principles and values, respecting Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion.
5. Acquire knowledge of the London Multi-Agency Adult Safeguarding Policy and Procedures, internal safeguarding procedures, Making Safeguarding Personal, and relevant legislation.
6. Receive guidance, support, and supervision to develop skills in Section 42(1) and S42(2) enquiries under the Safeguarding Adults framework.
7. Conduct assessments related to preventing harm and addressing issues like hoarding.
8. Maintain continuous professional development as per Social Work England standards.
9. Adhere to the requirements of the ASYE programme.
10. Participate in the team’s Duty system under supervision.
11. Present cases to the Quality Assurance and Monitoring Panel to facilitate care and support plan implementation.
12. Engage in supervision and act on feedback promptly.
Additional duties for G10 Social Workers include managing complex cases, chairing meetings, presenting cases to panels, managing high-risk cases, and acting as a Safeguarding Enquiry Officer in investigations.
Education: Degree level or equivalent experience is essential.
