Job Description
As an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP), you will assess, plan, and coordinate the care of individuals experiencing severe mental health difficulties, in line with the Mental Health Act. You will work collaboratively with individuals, families, carers, and other professionals to make informed decisions about treatment and care.
What will your responsibilities be?
We are seeking a dedicated professional to conduct Mental Health Act assessments to determine the need for compulsory admission to a mental health facility. You will consider the least restrictive options for treatment and care, adhering to legal and ethical principles. You will work in partnership with service users, carers, healthcare professionals, and statutory agencies to coordinate care and ensure continuity. Your role will involve facilitating communication between multi-disciplinary teams, including doctors, nurses, social workers, and other mental health professionals. You will safeguard the rights, dignity, and well-being of individuals under the Mental Health Act, advocating for service users to ensure their voices are heard in care planning and decision-making. Ensuring compliance with the Mental Health Act, related legislation, and local authority policies is crucial. You will maintain accurate and timely documentation, including statutory forms, reports, and care plans. Additionally, you will provide timely and effective responses during mental health crises, including conducting risk assessments and managing challenging situations. Supporting the professional development of colleagues and providing training on mental health legislation and best practices will be part of your responsibilities. Staying updated on legislative changes, policies, and procedures relevant to the AMHP role is essential.
Qualifications and Experiences:
The ideal candidate must possess an AMHP qualification and a degree in social work. These credentials are essential to ensure the candidate has the necessary expertise and knowledge to perform the duties of an Approved Mental Health Professional effectively.
