Overview

Qualified Social Worker – Adoption Team
Location: Merseyside
Pay Rate: £35 per hour
Hybrid Working Available

Are you an experienced and compassionate Social Worker looking to support families and children through their adoption journey? We’re seeking a dedicated professional to join the Adoption in Merseyside (AiM) team — a regionalised service formed by Wirral, Liverpool, Sefton and Knowsley councils. This is a specialist role supporting adoptive families, assessing adopter needs, and ensuring children with adoption plans are matched with the right families, at the right time, with the right support.

About the Role

You will be employed by Wirral Borough Council and seconded to Knowsley Borough Council, the host authority for AiM. While the role is largely home-based, you’ll be expected to attend team meetings, visits, and other in-person commitments as required.

You’ll play a key role in providing:

  • Assessment for adoption support, including therapeutic needs
  • Ongoing support to adopters and adopted children
  • Training and preparation for prospective adopters
  • Collaborative work with local authorities to secure timely, stable adoptive placements
  • Clear, evidence-based recommendations and written reports
What We’re Looking For
  • Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England
  • 4+ years’ post-qualified experience, ideally within adoption, permanence or children’s services
  • Strong understanding of adoption regulations, policies, and support frameworks
  • Skilled in producing analytical, high-quality assessments and support plans
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Commitment to securing the best long-term outcomes for children and adoptive families
