Project:** Special Guardianship Assessments

Pay rate: £33 per hour

We are looking for experienced and passionate Social Workers to join a dedicated Project Special Guardianship Assessments Team. You will be supported by an experienced team manager. You will be working in a busy and supportive team to complete thorough evaluations conducted by a local authority to determine the suitability of a potential special guardian, ensuring they can adequately meet the child's needs and provide a stable, loving home.

Working in accordance with social care legislation and local government requirements, informed by the values and principles of social care; you will support the delivery of person-centred, safe, and effective social care services. Using your professional knowledge and experience, you’ll make assessments and decisions about the most appropriate interventions. Applying your significant Social Work experience and excellent communication skills, you’ll establish and maintain relationships with service users and other agencies to ensure services meet identified needs.

Perfect candidate will be:

  • Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.
  • Experienced in working with children and families including those from vulnerable groups.
  • Experience working within Court, Children in Need, and Child Protection.
  • Creative, flexible, and forward-thinking in approach.
  • Knowledgeable of Child Protection legislation and understanding of child protection issues.
  • Constantly striving for continuous improvement to provide the best outcomes for children.
  • Able to use excellent mediation and negotiation skills on behalf of service users.
  • Highly skilled at building meaningful relationships with children and families to engage them in assessments and plans.
  • Committed to providing our service users with a high-quality service.
  • Experienced in working in a multi-disciplinary, interagency basis.
  • 3+ years qualified.

In this role you will:

  • Assess, plan, review, and provide support to a child, family, or carer with complex social care needs, taking full account of appropriate legal frameworks, policy, and guidance.
  • Assess family functioning, providing help and support when relationship breakdown threatens to impair the health or wellbeing of children at risk of abuse or neglect.
  • Carry out assessments or enquiries and plan responses to safeguard a child from abuse, neglect, or exploitation, building effective relationships with children, adults, and families as appropriate, including intervention when circumstances suggest a need to remove a child from their parents or carers.
  • Accountable for making recommendations about whether a case has reached the threshold for statutory intervention.
  • Promote autonomy and development with individuals who have complex social needs and are more vulnerable due to disability, exclusion, or diminished capacity, e.g., working with people with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, or diminished capacity.
  • Maintain up-to-date, accurate, and high-quality records of activity on cases. Participate in planning and decision-making forums including case discussions, Strategy Meetings, Legal Planning meetings, Child Protection Conferences, and Statutory Reviews.
  • Act as Practice Educators for social work qualifying course students in practice placements or as Assessors for Newly Qualified Social Workers completing their ASYE.
  • Work with communities, families, and individuals to maximize or promote their personal strengths, social networks, and resources.
  • Hold a caseload of a level of complexity and provide case management, guidance, support, and expert advice to social care staff, students, and newly qualified social workers as required.
