Here’s a draft job advert designed to appeal to someone seeking a Teaching Assistant role in a school with a culture and ethos very much like Magdalen Court School:
Are you passionate about helping children flourish in a nurturing and dynamic setting?
We're a close‑knit independent school specialising in supporting pupils with social, emotional and learning needs. With small class sizes (max ~10 pupils), we offer tailored support—whether accelerating learning for high‑ability individuals or helping young people with dyslexia, anxiety or ASC thrive.
We focus on building confidence, independence and a love of learning through engaging, meaningful tasks.
We deliver transformational learning, not just academic achievement—mixing classroom time with creative arts, cookery, environmental studies and adventure.
Outdoor education is central: forest school, kayaking, moorland walks, mountain biking, wild swimming and Duke of Edinburgh & John Muir awards form part of our dynamic program.
We maintain a supportive, family‑style atmosphere where staff retention is high, many staff choose to educate their own children here, and wellbeing is valued.
As a Teaching Assistant supporting pupils from key stage 2 through sixth form, your responsibilities include:
Assisting individual pupils and small groups with a range of learning needs—academic, social or emotional.
Working closely with class teachers to adapt and differentiate lessons, using SEND strategies.
Fostering independence, self‑esteem and social skills, both in lessons and in outdoor or practical contexts.
Collaborating effectively with colleagues and families to support holistic pupil development.
Responding flexibly to changing demands in a lively and varied day.
Prior experience working with SEND pupils is desirable; training in dyslexia, autism, anxiety or SEMH is a strong advantage.
Outstanding communication skills, with both pupils and parents, and a collaborative, proactive approach.
Resourceful and adaptable: inventive problem‑solving is a core part of the role.
A team‑player with a good sense of humour, willing to participate in extracurricular and outdoor elements of school life.
A caring, inclusive community where staff are truly valued.
High staff‑to‑pupil ratios and small classes, enabling genuine impact.
Opportunities to support outdoor education and enrichment activities—far beyond classroom walls.
A friendly, relaxed yet purposeful atmosphere, underpinned by a shared belief that every child can achieve.
Contract: Term‑time role (approx. 36–37 weeks per year)
Hours: approx. 08:30–16:00 (subject to variation based on school timetable)
