This is an exciting opportunity to join a brand-new specialist school community in Haverhill as we prepare to open our Independent Special School for children and young people aged 8–16.

Our school will support autistic children and young people with additional learning, communication, social and emotional needs. With small class sizes, personalised learning and an integrated therapeutic approach, we are creating an environment where every young person can feel safe, valued and able to achieve.

We are looking for a qualified and passionate SEN Teacher who wants to play a key role in shaping this new school and delivering an education that is purposeful, ambitious and genuinely meaningful.

Our approach goes beyond the traditional classroom. Learning will take place through a combination of formal teaching and real-life experiences, with a strong focus on functional learning, independence, life skills and emotional resilience.

You’ll work closely with an integrated therapy team, including Speech and Language, Occupational and Music Therapy colleagues, to develop therapeutically informed, person-centred approaches that support communication, sensory regulation and engagement.

You’ll have the freedom to be creative, explore innovative approaches and develop learning around the interests, strengths and aspirations of our young people.

Most importantly, you’ll be joining a team committed to helping children and young people who may have experienced disrupted education or faced barriers to engagement.

As a Qualified SEN Teacher, you will:

• Assess learning effectively and use assessment to inform planning, progress and next steps.
• Implement consistent, evidence-informed strategies to support communication, emotional regulation and sensory needs.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues and therapeutic professionals to deliver a truly integrated approach.
• Maintain effective communication with parents, carers and a range of professionals.
• Contribute to the development of a positive, ambitious and supportive school culture as the new provision grows.

About you

We’re looking for an exceptional teacher who is passionate about making a difference to the lives of children and young people with complex learning needs.

You will be:

• Qualified to teach, holding QTS or QTLS.
• An outstanding and reflective practitioner with a genuine passion for SEND education.
• Imaginative, adaptable and able to communicate effectively with pupils, families and colleagues.
• Confident in adapting your teaching to meet individual needs and learning styles.
• Committed to high expectations and positive outcomes for every young person.
• Collaborative, resilient and able to thrive in a challenging but highly rewarding environment.
• Passionate about using current knowledge, research and best practice in teaching, learning and SEND.
• Creative and flexible, with a willingness to try new approaches and learn alongside your pupils.
• A positive team player with a good sense of humour and a ‘whatever it takes’ attitude to removing barriers to learning.

Knowledge and experience of autism and neurodiversity-informed approaches would be highly desirable, as would previous experience working within a specialist education setting. However, we also value excellent teaching skills, the right personal qualities and a genuine desire to make a difference.
