Job description

Overview

GB Railfreight are currently looking for experienced Rail Operators to join the Doncaster team.

Working a shift-based roster on a nominal 37 hours per week, a Rail Operator will receive a basic salary of £39,873 per annum plus staff benefits - with access to a GB Railfreight Van.

We are looking for a safety-focused and dynamic individual to join our team and support GBRf in our commitment to deliver a safe, reliable and best-in-class service to our customers.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for the safe preparation of rail freight services as well as the operation of a variety of traction at off-network marshalling yards.

The successful candidates will marshal and dispatch trains in a safe, punctual, and efficient manner in accordance with GBRf and Railway rules and regulations. Liaising with GBRf Train Managers (Drivers), signallers, and contractor representatives, you will ensure customer requirements are met and trains are prepared efficiently and on time.

Qualifications

1. Previous operational/Ground staff/shunting experience within the Freight industry is essential.
2. Experience in a safety-critical role is desirable.
3. A technical mindset/problem-solving skills are advantageous.
4. Experience gained in a customer-facing environment is advantageous.
5. Able to multi-task and make quick decisions for short notice changes to train plans.
6. Ability to work independently and on your own initiative.
7. Excellent and clear communication skills to relay important safety messages to your colleagues.
8. Safety conscious and ability to remain calm in an event of an emergency situation.
9. A great deal of flexibility will be required as there will be a lot of travel for this role.
10. A clean full (manual) UK driving licence is essential.
