Job Description – Nursery Nurse

Purpose of post: To provide a high standard of physical, emotional, social, and intellectual care for children placed in the nursery. To give support to other staff in the nursery. To implement the daily routine within the allocated room. Responsible to Nursery Manager and Room Leader.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Adhere to the Policies and Procedures of the nursery, comply with The Children Act, Health and Safety legislation, and OFSTED National Standards.
  • Contribute to planning and preparation of activities to meet children's individual needs and ensure progression for each child.
  • Observe and document observations of all children in the allocated room.
  • Keep regularly updated developmental files for all key children.
  • Liaise with and support parents and family members.
  • Be flexible within nursery working practices; assist with domestic tasks like snack preparation and cleaning.
  • Participate in out-of-hours activities such as staff meetings, training, parent evenings, and seasonal events.
  • Promote equal opportunities respecting linguistic backgrounds.
  • Manage children's behaviour positively.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of rooms and equipment.
  • Provide role modeling for Nursery Assistants and students; assist new staff integration.
  • Supervise snacks and meals, prepare bottles or weaning food for babies, and ensure pleasant mealtime experiences.
  • Change nappies and maintain hygiene throughout the day.
  • Record accidents and notify parents; document medicinal needs and administer medication.
  • Ensure children are collected by approved persons.
  • Respect confidentiality and work effectively within the team.
  • Maintain high standards and stay informed through training and publications.
  • Perform any other duties as directed by the nursery.
